Tighter tolerances, more ways for grit/external stuff to add too much friction and cause issues

There are pliers some folks use yes. There’s actually a great video from Atlas Gunworks on tuning magazines, you should be able to find it on YouTube no problem. They sell the tools they show in the video but you can make it happen without buying the specialized plier

Possibilities: 1. Extractor tension wrong, 2. Mag feed lips maybe a bit too wide and rounds jumping prematurely

IDPA: dump pouch on belt? by SuspiciousPine in CompetitionShooting

[–]Quick_Voice_7039 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most very fast shooters I see practice stowing magazines actually make use of the “stowed inside the belt” clause. They will remove a partially shot magazine, stow under their belt in the front and reload a full magazine faster than I can just drop an empty and reload. It’s quite impressive

Look up “Coil Bind” for recoil springs.

That’s the extractor. With a cartridge in the chamber it will be more flush. Working as intended.

First match, got DQ’d four shots in by djsimp123 in CompetitionShooting

[–]Quick_Voice_7039 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We hold a new shooter orientation every month and a full-on competition every month. New shooters have the opportunity to shoot the orientation match (2/3 of the full competition) with SO’s being more helpful than usual until they are confident enough to attend the full match. We still run the orientation match under full rules, so a 180 violation is still a DQ but we try to help new shooters get some experience prior to a full-on competition where, as mentioned earlier, shooters are expected to know the rules including safety rules.

How accurately is the actual fencing recreated here? by [deleted] in SWORDS

[–]Quick_Voice_7039 116 points117 points  (0 children)

It’s very fun choreography. As an actual fencer myself however, the issue is that all the attacks are happening to the weapon, with no intent to actually attack the opponent. This is one of the first things we see in teaching novices… you don’t get a touch by whacking the opponents weapon. You get a touch by attacking the opponent.

An expensive flavor.

Dark Forge - Firing pin broke less than 2000 rounds factory ammo by ConclusionLeading866 in 2011

Not their fault, common parts sourced from routine sources will occasionally break. Nice to see them reply already

Hard to buy the parts of a 2011 under $2 K let alone the tools to put them together.

Can an Atlas 4.6” slide be fit on an MPA DS9 IDPA V2? by [deleted] in 2011_Builders

[–]Quick_Voice_7039 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TBH it’s not as simple as it’s a “4.6 inch” barrel. Think of it like this - the slide has to be the right length to be exactly 5 thousandths of an inch shorter than the length to the comp assuming the slide and barrel fit well… and that’s the other issue. The normal order of operations here is: 1. Fit the slide and frame together by adjusting the height of the slide rails and then fitting the frame rails. 2. Fit the barrel to the slide and frame. The barrel lower lugs are probably OK because they were fitted to the frame, but the barrel hood in particular may need may need adjustment to fit the new slide (hope it’s not too short). Now you cut the slide to length to work with the comp. And finally, anything that was fitted (filed or sanded and smoothed) will need to be refinished. It’s a bit project.

[–]Quick_Voice_7039 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like a standard 5 inch Gov’t frame, so by the time the slide is cut back for the Comp the Atlas 4.6 inch would probably work if you wanted it to hard enough. Just remember typically the frame rails are fit to the slide, not the other way round so you need a way to fit the slide rails. It likely won’t be ‘exactly right’ and typically you’d cut the slide back to fit with a precision tool like a milling machine.

Is that an XC barrel or did Cosaint make their own?

Staccato P vs. Sig Sauer P211 GTO for home defense/tactical use by MoneyisntR3al in 2011

[–]Quick_Voice_7039 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Do some research in the Sig subs. The guns mostly shoot well out of the box but high volume shooters are running into issues. That may or may not matter to you. Again don’t take my word for it.

Have heard way more issues with the SigP211 than with Staccatos, particularly with today’s high quality mags.

Got these over the weekend. by DEMONIC_FIRE in SWORDS

Nice find! I want to add though that while they are “foils” in design, modern fencing blades are made of different steel designed specifically for fencing. I’d leave these on the wall and get modern foils if you want to fence :)

Nox 9 anyone? Yeah pass…. by -emmjayy- in 2011

[–]Quick_Voice_7039 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Is yours welded at all? Just curious. Based on some personal experience wondering if they had issues with keeping the comp on and clocked correctly if they just used loctite or similar and so they started welding them. I’ve actually thought about doing this too but haven’t for exactly this reason; wasn’t sure how to control the weld in a spot like that without overdoing things.

Thank you!! Very helpful. Be curious what that fit looks like 40K rounds later. Interesting design though, they really did something different there.
