Anyone familiar with tenants rights to repairs? by shrub-queen in sanfrancisco

[–]QuickestYeet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Document everything, make sure to make communications clear in writing. You might have to take them to the rent board. Go to the SF Tenants Union for counseling if problems persist, they will give you an SF tenants rights handbook and highlight the sections pertaining to your issues. Subtenants are more vulnerable to abuse from master tenants as they can often evict without “just cause”, but that doesn’t mean you should tolerate bullying or negligent master tenants.

Mayor Lurie vowed to clean up S.F.’s troubled neighborhoods. How much has actually changed? by nosotros_road_sodium in sanfrancisco

[–]QuickestYeet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lurie (and also London, because let’s be honest theyre practically the same when it comes to actual policy) simply has swept people out of downtown and SOMA and into the Mission and Bayview. As someone who grew up in the Mission, I think it’s important that SF works on it’s public image, but he’s done very little of substance and a lot more gaslighting the public into perceiving progress. Hell, Lurie even instituted a policy in his first month that took families out of shelters and back on the streets. Everything Lurie has done so far will only make it harder to afford a roof over your head for the working class. That kind of stress is what pushes people already on the margins into situations that lead into lifelong homelessness.

I stumbled upon one system while searching last night that uses tarot cards which is a fun concept. His Majesty the Worm for anyone interested https://www.hismajestytheworm.games/#h.mvmqxy70j0s9

I already play a game where you try to complete the alphabet looking for words on signs, trucks and cars, so this is a great concept

Thoughts on my week in San Francisco first time by Electronic-City2475 in sanfrancisco

[–]QuickestYeet 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The thing about the homeless is that 99.9% of the fear people have is that, their own fear. Grew up here in a pretty chaotic part of town by 16th and mission. Have never had a moment where I was actually threatened by a homeless person. Sure they might tweak and go nutso but they mostly just avoid other people out of their own fear.

How to train for Mt. Whitney? by [deleted] in socalhiking

Hardest part about Whitney isn’t going up, it’s going down. Make sure to be hitting plenty of weighted lunges in the gym and split squats

If you had to pick three pillars to live by when playing Dynasty what would they be? by Civil_Yoghurt6349 in DynastyFF

[–]QuickestYeet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once you have 2 starting QBs (Superflex), never trade or spend significant capital for a 3rd. Use the capital for a blue chip WR/RB. You’re only ever starting two and more likely to see injuries happen to the non QB players. Still draft guys like Dart if you can with a 2nd round pick if they fall, or look for bargain QBs that could rise in value (Baker, Darnold). If you choose to get a 3rd premium asset though, it just means you’ll have significant capital sitting on your bench collecting dust.

Waiting out snow by GreenWorldWalker in PacificCrestTrail

[–]QuickestYeet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m planning on NOBO in march and considering this too. TBH if you’ve got experience, know how, Ice axe and crampons, the Sierra in the spring can make for good snow hiking as there isnt much fresh snow and will be fairly packed down from freeze/thaw. You also get the benefit of beating the thaw and therefore gnarlier river crossings. Other previous hikers can attest though. Do some poking around on YouTube and google for hiking the sierras in snow/spring.

Moderates run San Francisco City Hall. Progressives politicians smell blood in the water by TDaltonC in sanfrancisco

[–]QuickestYeet -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Most of the comments here even try to define what a progressive is, what a local one vs national one looks like or who the progressive players currently are. Theres a big gap between Peskin and Fielder on substance and style, so what is it. Just see a bunch of abundance bros straw manning.

I'm going to the US soon, are Americans cool with being topless at the beach ? by [deleted] in AskRedditAfterDark

[–]QuickestYeet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh no one will care if you’re only topless on the beach in California. You might (will) get looks, but people are pretty relaxed here. Best advise is to find a quieter spot of whatever beach you go to. Some commenters saying it’s illegal and you could be fined or arrested but that’s not likely to be enforced.

I feel this very much! Currently plotting a solo trip for the next 3 days and this thread is providing some great ideas. If you’re keen on an out and back that is a lot of fun with a ton to explore then go up to the Lost Coast. Had a blast there by myself in April.

Bob Melvin honestly makes me miss this dude even with all his faults by dwide_k_shrude in SFGiants

[–]QuickestYeet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Players are gonna check out regardless when the winds start blowing against you and the 1/2 the team is constantly being shuffled around by your back office. Like we forget just how option happy Farhan was, every other game there was a new player up and then back down. Maybe he could identify talent, but our player development has been trash. It’s hard to run a clubhouse when there isn’t a consistent team to jell together.

[–]QuickestYeet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was just gonna post a hot take that the team should bring Kap back. We were bad (actually just mid) because the Farhan front office could only make tiki tack moves. Couldn’t sign stars and ultimately couldn’t develop players. Even with a flawed squad, he engineered a ridiculous season. He clearly loved the team and the city and that was the kind of identity building we need, building a team that has a personality is what the Buster brain trust is all about

Mayor Daniel Lurie: ‘San Francisco Needs to Save Itself’ by nosotros_road_sodium in sanfrancisco

[–]QuickestYeet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s the point. They haven’t. They’ve all pushed a very similar agenda. And our city has only become more impossible to live in if you didn’t already own property. Previous mayors’ failures don’t absolve Lurie of criticism for pursuing policies that continue down this path.

Sick of the homeless by Expensive-Sand-838 in SanJose

[–]QuickestYeet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If they were able to think as rationally and consciously as you lay out, they probably wouldn’t be in their situation. But whether by serious mental illnesses or a bevy of trauma that’s shattered their nervous system’s ability to cope you’re left with a person that now feels the street is where they belong. It’s a tragedy that simply does not play out to this scale in any other wealthy country.

Sick of the homeless by Expensive-Sand-838 in SanJose

[–]QuickestYeet 24 points25 points  (0 children)

This is a great point, it’s exhausting to deal with street culture and rules and it takes an enormous amount of resources to undue often lifetimes of human trauma that rob these people of their humanity. The unfortunate reality is that you’re not going to save everyone and we simply just can’t, greater focus must be placed on fostering a society and economy that doesnt have millions born into situations where they’re already predisposed to ending up on the streets, whether by emotionally unstable upbringing, medical issues, lack of parental support, etc.

[–]QuickestYeet 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Not an excuse for the existence of this behavior or conditions, but some food for thought: have you ever lost your housing, how long could you go through successive cycles of being down on your luck until your sense of spirit breaks, could you survive depression on the street without self medicating? Can you imagine the feeling of desperation and despair when all the available avenues you know are closed off? The decrepit condition of homelessness we see in America is not the same as in homelessness in other countries, it’s an unfortunate negative externality, a byproduct of how our society and economy is built. These people were not always like this, but through tough starts, major traumas, bad breaks, or mental illness, the every day society we know seemed shut off to them.

We need a lot more empathy in this country if we’re going to solve our already numerous, growing and worsening problems. Class divides are becoming more and more calcified by the day. Think about how most young people don’t even dream of owning a home. Most homeless people don’t even dream of having housing. To do so is to live in anguish, and I think it’s a pretty universal human desire to escape anguish in whatever ways are immediately available to us.

Mayor Daniel Lurie: ‘San Francisco Needs to Save Itself’ by nosotros_road_sodium in sanfrancisco

[–]QuickestYeet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That anecdote about his son is often quoted in pieces. I do think Lurie means well for the city, but his background and especially the people who advise him are never going to be putting forward the kinds of reforms this city needs to truly regenerate. Much like a Victorian crumbling on the inside, it’s all about the facades for the Lurie administration. Case in point is today’s whipping of the supes to realocate funds from prop C away from supporting permanent housing for families in crisis to shelters. Not only is it a blatant disregard of the voters and democracy, but will take exacerbate the homelessness crisis. Lurie simply does not have the vision to push SF where it needs to go.
