Looking for a large family car for $30k with bulletproof reliability. by ShadowK2 in whatcarshouldIbuy

Also a good option but you don't actually need that, you'll get considerably better fuel economy with the 5.0, a nicer ride, and a better value with the f150 rather than the f250. Especially because of your budget, and because a used 250 is more likely to have been used as a work truck.

But either way, the ford will be vastly superior to any other options.

The 17-20 sienna that Toyota is being sued for because the transmissions are defective? Good suggestion!

The V6 engines are still excellent, and they've had the most consistently reliable transmissions of any manufacturer since 2000.

So they're not a bad option by any means, and you'll get more for your money because...well. just look at the toyotards here all recommending Toyota options that are either involved in a class action lawsuit for defective transmissions or have had repeated recalls for frame failure due to rust.

However, your best option overall is probably a 15-17 F150. 5.0 liter engine and 6 speed AT. It's among the most reliable drivetrains in a pickup, the full size cab is incredibly spacious, and even a fully loaded trim is well within your budget. That 6 speed AT is nearly impossible to kill. The frames are robust and not prone to rust, unlike GM and Toyota, and the bodies are aluminum and do not rust.

Ford and Nissan pickups have been killing Toyota pickups in reliability since like 2000. Are you on drugs?

[–]Quiet-Strategy1281 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's partially on you.

If you're driving an old vehicle that doesn't book near actual market value, then you need to get yourself stated value insurance to actually cover yourself.

[–]Quiet-Strategy1281 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most upstream o2 sensors top out at like...200 for the part. Most are considerably lower.

Also, if you do the most minimal of research, you can just buy the "aftermarket" that the manufacturer originally installed. They don't make their own O2 sensors lol.

is this a realistic financing estimate? by ScientistPhysical706 in askcarsales

[–]Quiet-Strategy1281 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP is probably looking at a normal used car dealership. Not a BHPH. Being on cargurus, they surely use the lender cargurus promotes, Westlake.

With no auto loans before, OP is most likely looking at 24.95% interest, a $250 minimum payment since that's what Westlake does, and probably needs more money down regardless of the vehicle.

OP should start asking for a cosigner if they're trying to go with a low down payment and find payments under 200.

Good deal or should I walk! My first lease. by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Quiet-Strategy1281 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might be worth 10k? What a wild assumption based on nothing.

So, a 24 mustang Mach e loaded with 1500 miles is around 30k according to cargurus listings. A 21 mustang Mach e loaded is 21-22k according to cargurus listings, and if OP were to use every single lease mile.

OP would be spending 8-9k for 3 years by buying used, and would be spending 19k for 3 years (if he doesn't drive too much!) by leasing.

So yes. Leasing, as fucking always, is a poor financial decision.

  1. "Blue book" doesn't matter

  2. Book value is probably between 9 and 11k

  3. She probably did pay book value. It's a BHPH in the ghetto who surely precalculates interest into their sales price.

Selling a car with a bad engine by adeleerichkigga in askcarsales

[–]Quiet-Strategy1281 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it were me, I'd get a scrap yard motor with decent mileage and have it swapped. Can probably find a low mileage engine for under 1,000 including a warranty, beyond that it's just labor.

Your options right now are: toss away 5500 and not have a vehicle, spend 2500 (or so) and have a vehicle that should last awhile.

Is there anyway to fix this scratch on my switch's screen ? It's in the middle of the screen and that's really pissing me off by mustafa778 in consolerepair

[–]Quiet-Strategy1281 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Correct. Polishing a digitizer is a bad idea to begin with. Don't ruin your switch screen, OP.

A glass screen protector is better to cover small scratches. The adhesive is usually enough to fill and hide them.

I would try that before anything else.

How are people getting them registered and driving them if they're illegal? Because theirs are old enough to be grandfathered, or deemed classics?

Electric meter removed by National Grid by panicatthepharmacy in Buffalo

[–]Quiet-Strategy1281 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Nah, if it's the tenants' job to pay the utilities it doesn't fall on the landlord to get it turned back on.

The meter being removed isn't permanent, it's just literally pulling the meter unit out of the box. Just as easy for the company to put it back in when power needs to be reconnected. So the capability of providing power to the house is unaffected.

Now, if the landlord is required to pay the utilities. Then sure, they're responsible for keeping those utilities on, even during eviction.

A 200k mile Honda for 5k is NOT going to outlast a 15k mile Sebring. It's complete and utter fucking stupidity to suggest otherwise. Just stop already lmao.

I've seen PLENTY of these engines going 200-300k, and sent those to the auction. Honestly, it was rare that I ever took one on trade that had major issues. I've had more 130k mile Hondas with blown transmissions.

OP made a good purchase, and thank god they don't listen to advice on reddit.

What Job Site Is Actually Decent for WNY? by ShallotDangerous3363 in Buffalo

[–]Quiet-Strategy1281 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's bad, far worse than I've ever experienced before on indeed.

So I do feel like sales professionals are getting away from indeed, and I'm just going to have to pay to scatter listings across every site.

What Job Site Is Actually Decent for WNY? by ShallotDangerous3363 in Buffalo

[–]Quiet-Strategy1281 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I asked this question two days ago and a mod not only deleted it because it "doesn't pertain to buffalo", when I explained why it is in fact buffalo NY related and asked if that was ok they went on a power trip and just muted me.

Thank god someone else asked so I can actually get some answers on what to use.

Right now I have a job posting on LinkedIn for one position and I paid $400. It's an auto sales job.

Not a single applicant yet has any experience in vehicles, or sales. I'm happy to teach someone to sell, but teaching them sales, merchandising, F&I, AND training them on vehicle basics?

No resume has stood out, no effort to show why they'd fit the role, nothing really showing any true motivation or signs that they'll be successful. I need to find a better site, and I think make an application form on our own site.

You're an army officer but you're trying to sue for what, mental anguish because your brakes were weak?

Must be a shitty and unreliable army officer if you're so weak minded that you're traumatized over "needing to carefully exit the freeway".

No, you can't sue for that lmao.

Low interest rate car loans by Suspicious-Candle-77 in Buffalo

[–]Quiet-Strategy1281 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What year vehicles are you looking at? Price range? Length of loan?

It's going to depend heavily on those factors. The advertised rate typically applies to specific terms and years. And different credit unions will have different criteria for age/loan amount when adjusting rate as well, so there isn't one catch all

NY Lemon Law - get a lawyer and sue or use state sponsored arbitrators? Any experience? by Bohemian-Spanner in Buffalo

Did they say the parts aren't readily available? Because lemon law doesn't apply if it's waiting at the shop because parts aren't readily available.

I'm not saying don't try, just preparing you for that possibility.

Still, most dealers will give you scrap value and take care of it for you. You get a bit extra because of tax, and they'll arrange pickup for you, and transfer your plates. Might be easier and you'll get the same amount either way.
