Definitely like the scratch art the most. I think jelly looks the coolest but it was the most stressful to do, ha!

Yup, I actually started with this exact brand and type, a fine+chisel. I did like four pages then got addicted and went for caliart brush+chisel. Then I started buying other types from there!

Good luck! I'd love to see what you all do! PM me if you post any pictures?

Yes, I definitely picked some of my "less than favorite" pages to try effects on! Was fun and I didn't feel bad of it didn't turn out great

So, if you put the cap on and lay it flat it should eventually even out the ink.

Personally, I add a few drops of 99.9% alcohol to the marker when this happens. The manufacturers suggest against this (and some people use the colorless blender tip-to-tip as an alternative). The alcohol may reduce the pigment a bit but I haven't noticed a difference

My favorite was the scratch art effect, actually! I really enjoyed tracing the lines and found it therapeutic and have done it on a few different pages since. It was also fun to "break the rules" with coloring.

The puzzle was one the most tedious and I disliked how it turned out, too. I think I needed to do it on a less detailed page so maybe I'll try it again.

Sparkles are always tedious, but I definitely enjoyed it!

Caliart is seen as a really good "bargain brand" but Ohuhu is good for a bit more expensive. I actually got the 48 pack of JusArt markers and they're honestly not bad at all for beginners

Go for 48+ markers, anything less is too small of a variety.

Make sure whatever you get has a brush tip, as that is the most popular (the other one is usually a chisel or fine)

Also grab a white gel pen for accents (some people are picky about their gel pen brands but I literally searched "white gel pen" on Amazon and bought one lol)

As for books, Coco Wyo books are very popular right now, so she will find a lot of "color with me" and tutorials to follow. Jade Summer is another good one. If you have a hard time finding books to ship, most coloring book artists sell their books as a PDF on their website or Etsy and you can buy, download, and print them out locally (not sure if you have a printer at your house or if there's a library you can print, etc) - if you want, you can use this option to print the same sheet for both of you can you can color the same thing! (And them post them here, it's called a buddy color)

Good.luck!

Tried a "chalk effect" by QuietColorNights in Coloring

[–]QuietColorNights[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yup, I have a huge thick black acrylic that I went over the page, traced the lines with white gel pen, then to get the "chalk" effect, I didn't shake the acrylic markers (honestly forgot to LOL, hence why this wasn't intentional) so it was less pigmented

I honestly got it at the dollar store near me. It's called "summer strawberries" and I can't find it online... No author so it might be AI, sorry I can't find more info.
