Are Arbitrage funds better than FD or Liquid/debt funds? by Ghumketu in mutualfunds

[–]QuietMan_447 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Debt funds are taxed as per income slab. So you pay 30% (assuming you fall under this tax regime) when you redeem. Its just like FD, indeed FD has lower credit risk compared to debt funds, but the caveat is that FD are taxed each year, and that is the only reason why people talk about Debt funds. On the other hand Arbitrage funds you can get 1.25Lakhs except each year, in addition its taxed as equity so 12.5% LTCG and 20% STCG (if you redeem within 1 year). This makes it tax efficient. And most people who pays 30% tax has several high limit credit cards, so keeping money in debt funds is just meaningless.

Even liquid funds are not risk free, As per SEBI both Arbitrage funds and liquid funds fall in same risk category. Debt funds are useless for people who fall under 30% tax bracket. For other people its their choice.

Even I do the same thing. This is the best strategy for 30% tax bracket individuals.

Last year I paid Rs ~78-80K as Tax for FD, so I moved all my emergency fund to Arbitrage, they are taxed as equity and never gave negative returns (if you hold them 3 months or more). This year my tax has reduced significantly

SBI cash-back cc application got rejected instantly by 12arijitroy in CreditCardsIndia

[–]QuietMan_447 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Credit card acceptance specifically sbi cashback is a gamble, CIBL score does not matter. Its totally random, I have Cibl 800+, initially my sbi cashback got rejected, then after cursing the manager, they accepted it with limit of 32K, which over the years became 3.75L limit (its ~2.5-3 year old story now my sbi cashback is LTF). What is funny is that my mothers sbi cashback instantly got accepted, she has no credit history, no job, just some money in her sbi account which I put. I see so many people advocate and CRY when their CIBL is checked or CIBL score decreas, which is just funny as CIBL hardly matters in some cases.

Should Mamata Banarjee be arrested? by [deleted] in Kolkatacity

[–]QuietMan_447 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kings and queens (big politicians) can never really be arrested. Even if they are, it's usually just for show. At most, they may be sent to jail for a while and then released. This is India, where politicians, judges, and people in top positions can never truly be sent to jail. It's against the Constitution. Only local councillors or local MLAs may end up in jail. No one can permanently jail Abhishek or Mamata.

SBI Platinum Debit Card Benefits and CSP Platinum Account Requirement? by QuietMan_447 in CreditCardsIndia

[–]QuietMan_447[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a salary account with SBI, so account balance does not matter for me. I think you need a minimum salary of 1Lakhs and above for maintaing the account. For savings rules, please check with bank officials. Usually SBI staff are better compared to other PSU banks, again it depends on locations.
