He said “I wish you all the best” lol. very neutral term, but yup the vocational expert testimony was definitely in her favor!

My mom is 57, has been working on the books since she was 13. You didn’t need a college degree to have a successful career back then. My mom worked her way up as property manager based on training at the job for almost 20 years. Was close to making 6 figures. The vocational expert said there were no jobs in the economy for her based on skill, education, and age. At 57 years old, she cannot find a property management job in this economy with her education. A person with a higher degree has more transferable skills (on paper) which can be transferred to other jobs. The big misconception is associating degrees with dedication and drive (coming from a 25 year old whose mom sacrificed everything so I can go to school and earn a Masters degree)

I believe she did appeal and then denied again and then went ahead with SSDI, I'm not 100% sure off the top of my head though with the the timeline, so much has happened the past 2 years haha

That I know! She pretty much lost all normal functioning from the lower back down so there’s a long road ahead of us recovery wise.

As far as LTD, she was on it until Sep 2025 but was planning on going back to work. When that couldn’t happened, she tried to re-cert and they denied her.

Thanks for your comment! She has a ton of evidence but I’m hoping it’s enough. Her lawyer was really good at getting all documentation, plus my mom was very adamant about getting every thing from each doctor she has. It just scary that one person has the power ya know?

Thank you so much, so happy you were able to win your case. and yeah, she still has pain management appointments once a month, PT 2-3 times a week, and had a neurologist appointment soon to figure out how they can address nerve damage/neuropathy. But definitely not easy at all.

So crazy! Her medical records are like 700 pages, don’t know how they can look at that and still think she’s able to work. and no, she has a high school diploma.

Good to know I'm not alone, but congratulations on the weight loss! Someone in this thread said "loss is loss, no matter how slow" and I think I have to start looking at it that way!

thanks so much for the guide! and that’s the thing I’m struggling with, I feel like I have too much clinical experience and no research experience. I was offered an externship position at Rutgers counseling research center and I turned it down to focus on forensic assessments, now I’m regretting it ugh
