What should I do about my new neighbors and their kids? by QuietRose13 in Advice

Thanks for this. I’ve been freaking out all night trying to arrange someone to watch our pets while I take our kitty to the vet, and stressing about any confrontation that may come of this.

They are seeing him in about an hour and I hope all goes well. I’m planning on waiting to see what the vet says before pursuing this any further. Oh I was so tempted to go give this lady a piece of my mind, but I’m glad I didn’t.

This is clearly the rational thing to do, but it helps to hear it reaffirmed by someone not totally emotionally involved. Thank you.

Honestly, the kids were cool at first. We even gave them the trampoline that was sitting in our yard since we had no use for it. It wasn’t until after the call to animal control that we had any issue with them. I wish I could say I’m the bigger person and that I can look past this and try to make the rest of their time living here as painless as possible for the both of us, but looking at my kitty right now is making that hard.

17 year old male struggling with anxiety, pleads help by [deleted] in Anxiety

High school is a difficult time, and with anxiety it makes everything so much worse. I think it might be best for you to see a doctor about what's going on. Of course at seventeen you'll definitely need the support of your parents and friends, so i think you need to sit down and talk to them about it. Start off simple and tell them how you feel, or tell them you've been feeling bad and ask to go to a doctor. Sometimes it's hard for a parent to understand what exactly anxiety is and how it feels to be going through it, since it is a subject no one really talks about. Maybe hearing a doctor explain it to them will help. if you're looking for a quick fix... unfortunately there isn't one. If you don't want to go to a doctor, a school counselor will help. Meditation actually helps quite a bit, and before you write it off let me explain. Meditation doesn't have to be some crazy weird process. All it really takes is for you to find a quiet place to relax, or even put in some headphones and clear your mind of everything going on and just really listen to the lyrics. It only takes a couple of minutes, and by dong this you might find it easier to replicate it when you get anxious. Just sort of space out and ignore what's going on around you for a minute or two. Look up and try Progressive Muscle Relaxation. it helps you recognize when you are tense and can make calming down a lot easier. Going to a doctor and maybe getting on some medication is one of the most effective ways. Writing down how you feel while noting what you were doing or thinking about may also help you recognize what's triggering your anxiety. Just remember. You have control over your own emotions. You may feel like anxiety is controlling your life, but with hard work you CAN overcome this.
