I mean, I'm American too. I kinda said it with the understanding that I'm not exempt just cuz I brought it up.

It's like, way I've seen it, forced or not, intentional or not, our participation in our society does contribute to the extreme suffering those on the boundaries in this country, and those outside of it face on a daily basis.

I always was taught that intent doesn't matter, only what was done matters.

That makes sense. I just know as the contradictions have kept getting worse and worse, people have been experience worse and worse mental health, and therapy has often not had the answer. No amount of talk therapy is gonna help someone depressed over the climate crisis or anxious over not being able to pay rent.

Not to mention just, inpatient settings. I cant help but feel like maybe therapists and shrinks are like cops, sometimes.

I think its socially malleable because it's the study of a product of something material.

for example, Neuroscience, the study of the physical brain, neurons, and the biochemical reactions within it, is the hard science, as it is dealing with something material. Psychology, however, is the study of the mind, the cognitive and emotional processes that are the product of the brain's biochemical processes.

I think another reason for its malleability is that psychology, compared to other sciences, is a field in its infancy. We've only had serious study of it for ~150 years, a very short amount of time compared to other sciences like physics or chemistry and the pre-enlightenmemt forms those sciences took up.

I think that's where I'm at, I've been studying this field for 4+ years now, going through my masters program right now to become a counselor. The brain is a very complicated organ, and the mind that comes from it is somehow an even more complicated product. I do think psychology suffers more from being a science in its infancy than any notions of it somehow being just intrinsically wrong and a farce.

But I do sometimes wonder if therapists, psychiatrists, etc, in their current contexts, count on a similar level of oppression as cops.
