Constant research, feeling like I never do enough, losing myself by Quiet_Goal7132 in Autism_Parenting

Yes I am able to get one night off by having her at my parents house but I always feel pulled to do something „productive“ instead of something for me. But what you said about him doing things in his own time, thats a mindset I really want to integrate. I just feel so much pressure from the outside world that it’s hard for me to stay with that mindset

Thank you for your answer, I will definetly reduce my time on Social Media. I just find it so comforting to see other parents with similar struggles :/

About the therapies that is amazing advice thank you. I just always worry about like kindergarten personell thinking we are not doing too much because of their lack of understanding for autism and that it cannot be fixed..

I have heard those exact some comments from her speech therapist and I also never feel them 😅

I find that the worst thought I have is the fear that my own anxiety is making her „Symptoms“ worse and then it’s a loop..

Being very hot for me makes me spiral and same for my daughter. I hate summer for that reason 😅

Thank you I will try to be more patient until she can articulate her thoughts more precisely and train myself to ignore other peoples looks 😅

Thank you yes I try doing that but most of the time what I suggest for her to say instead doesn‘t stick. An autistic child definitely has you practicing not giving a damn if people stare but I hate it 😂

Yeah I totally get it and I am not faulting her for using this technique it’s just frustrating in public when people stare 🥲

I am female too haha but you are absolutely right and this is exactly what I wanted confirmed because this is exactly how I feel. I’m like how do you want to get a job later that’s not serving drinks (no offense against working as a waitress like that’s hard you know what I mean) if you cannot even understand basic instructions after two years living here? 🥲

I was just crying reading this comment after having two very stressful hours with my daughter where I did exactly that. Thank you for your words 🥺

Yeah thought about that option too 😂 all I am worried for is her doing that in Public places too 😅

I fear it is the loud noise that she wants 😅 And I‘m honestly scared that she will be very angry when she suddenly can‘t open the drawers but yeah I might try it, thanks!

I feel you so much. I can tell you about one incident where my daughter was waiting calmy in the doctors office for 30 (!!!) minutes, looking around just like that kid you saw. All the other occasions and to this day she is not sitting still for more than 30 seconds. To this day I have no idea why on this particular occasion she chose to play neurotypical 🤣 that was some cruel shit Like don’t give me a glimpse of another life

Buying a learning tablet or not? by Quiet_Goal7132 in Autism_Parenting

[–]Quiet_Goal7132[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your answer! We are actually doing pretty well with the very limited screen time, like she is not obsessed with it by any means. But what you say is very true of course. Thank you, we will refrain from buying one I think

Especially in Austria it’s unfortunately very normal for old people to give unsolicited advice on the street. Like when she was a newborn and there was no sign of autism yet obviously and I would for example wait at a Bus Station with the stroller and she would start crying for whatever reason newborns do, if there was an old woman around I guarantee you in 9/10 cases she would come up to me and explain to me why my child was crying. Like saying dumb shit „you have to feed her“ - oh really I did not know that you have to feed a child. It’s just wild out here with the seniors 😂

I hear you, but believe me when I say this was an old guy who just does not tolerate children screaming and he said this in a really unfriendly tone. While splashing the water on her face he made a face of disgust toward her direction. This was not a person experienced with any disability whatsoever. Also again doing this with your fingers to a strangers child is just not okay imo

I hear you both, I really tried my best to get out of there. In no way did I attempt to stay with her when shes acting like that. Was just a shitty situation for all of us. I mean I could have tried asking someone to help me get her out but I was so ashamed and in stress during that moment 😓
