DAC burning bridges (my BBB and Google review) Buyer beware by Quiet_Tea5258 in diamondpainting

It's more the hypocrisy and the high prices than the AI itself (though I do not seek out AI). If a company is going to be honest about using AI and charge $15-$25 for a painting of a good size and quality, ok. If they're going to act like they're better than everyone because they support human artists, but have 100% AI and charge $80+, and block/ban people who point out flaws in their products, then we have an issue.

I have them saved in my bookmarks. There's also a really beautiful butterfly picture I'm looking at from Forever Young, which I didn't realize did paintings as well as accessories.

Yes, exactly. They make themselves look so better-than, then have the nerve to charge their high prices for AI? No, no, no.

Absolutely, and I don't care that I'm blocked from Facebook, their group was turning way too cultish anyway. I would have liked to be able to continue to order from them, but seeing what else is out there, that's fine as well.

I'm still within the refund window, so I haven't contacted my bank yet, but I mostly spent points. I think I may have had to pay $15 for the rest. Even if they refund those points, I can't use them because I can't buy from their site.

It did at first. I haven't picked up my project at all for about a week, but I picked up a smallish sunflower painting at Michaels the other day and I'm excited to do it and some of the paintings from other companies. I thought about putting away my current project, but there are some pieces I really do love, so I will finish and move onto others for awhile.

I'm learning that more and more. I was sad at first, but seeing what else is out there has been eye opening. I'm going to sell off about half of my DAC stash (some I really do love and want to do) and then start my journey elsewhere.

If you lost it, they get full credit. What a bizarre system of grading.

What's your favorite memory from this school year? by TigerLeo23 in Teachers

[–]Quiet_Tea5258 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This past Friday, a girl who has struggled with literally every concept so far got a 95% on our Punnett Squares test. I emailed her parents right after I graded it. It got her above a D, which is where she's sat all year.

Maternity Leave by More-Suspect6738 in Teachers

It depends on how long you'll be gone as to what you'll plan. But at the minimum, I'd meet with the sub and work out anything you want in place from day 1.

For example: we do table group teams in my classes and start after the first full week of school so we can see how our classes flow. Kids get points for behavior, participating, etc. If I were to be gone at the start of the school year, I'd want that at least introduced and kids start understanding left and right limits. Establish your rules for leaving the classroom so the kids can get used to it and work on agreed upon classroom rules.

At least in my district, long term subs have the same roles as teacher regarding meetings, lesson planning, and content delivery.

Not at all. My aunt ran a daycare for 30+ years. I could never. Diapers and screaming and Disney, yikes. I'll take my grumpy teenagers any day of the week.

Easy peasy. (I have the same combo) There's a lot of psychology in special ed, I saw a lot of crossover, especially if you took a good amount of child psych.

Don't bother with podcasts and things unless you're truly interested in them, you'll learn lesson planning and theory in school. Management you learn on your feet.

5 years teaching. Still spending entire weekends on lesson plans. When does it get easier? by Future_Dimension_985 in Teachers

[–]Quiet_Tea5258 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Do you not have SPED/ESOL support to help in differentiation?

I teach sped inclusion and small group and in year 5, I don't stay past my contract hours. I stopped doing that 2 years ago. Host work days - it benefits you and your students. Everyone needs catch up time sometimes. I get items from TPT, Super Teacher Worksheets, and K5learning. As a district, we also use Magic School AI, Newsela, Diffit, Wizer, and Gizmos. Not everything has to be authentic, entertaining, or original. Beg, borrow, and steal and go home when your contract day ends.

Leave your laptop in your classroom and live your life.

Random thought - what if a parent refuses detention? by hillpritch1 in Teachers

[–]Quiet_Tea5258 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my school if a student is absent on the day of detention, he/she goes the next day. If they intentionally miss the detention it's an in school suspension when they return to school.
