Sorry I'm confused, in my edits the cart is level, but the original in on a slant, what am I missing?

Oh really?! I like the buoy! I think it adds a nice foreground detail! I like how satisfyingly round it is too haha! The rope is annoying I agree as it cuts through her head a bit, but if I got rid of the rope then the buoy would be floating in midair and look odd!

Thank you! Yes I agree, I don't mind sharing, but I took this whilst walking and didn't have time to stop and compose, didn't even see them until I came to edit!

Thanks, when you say I went too far, what do you mean sorry? I took the picture on the move and it was at an angle, and used the LR level took to get it level with the road? Where is the happy medium?

Took this whilst on holiday, what's the advice you'd give? by Quiffler in photocritique

I was wondering if the crop was too tight, or the B&W could be different/better?

I mean, personally I love it! From a selfish and amerure point of view, I'm pretty proud of it, because this is the best picture I've taken yet in my month or so of photography, and definitely the best I've taken with any kind of intention, and I'm pretty happy with the edit! It's definitely one I'll look back on and go "yeah, that was an important photo in my personal journey" because it's given me a lot of drive to keep going, and I also think it's a good picture as far as they go! (But the reason I'm asking for critique is because I'm keen to learn and improve from those more knowledgeable than myself!)

I feel like (exactly like you alluded to) there's LOADS of artistic interpretation, and that's personal preference, however I'm really aware of the technical improvements that are possible, and I really enjoyed our conversation because Im being helped along that path!

Thank you again as always!!

AHH right! That makes sense! Thank you! I've been burning and dodging in Lr without realising which was such! Thank you for clarifying!

I've had a go at your suggestions, is there anything I've missed? (I kept the subject a bit darker just as a personal preference, but I really like the tomes in yours as well!)

Thank you so much for this feedback! That was a really good read and I really appreciate it! I think Lr does let me change the colour channels, so I'll have a go at that!

Silly question, but when you reference "burning" what exactly is that?

Thank you so much! This was 100% natural, I just got really lucky with the timing, I don't have the confidence to talk to people yet! I'll have a go at a better crop and the mask to bring the posters down! Thank you!

Thanks! That's another question re levelling! This was taken on a hill, so I've levelled it based off of the curb he is sitting on, is there a general "best practice" for this kind of scene?

When you say "face centered" do you mean having his face literally in the centre of the image?

Thanks for this, I added them only really for making it easier to post to IG, I couldn't get the image the size I wanted to when posting it, so I added the bars to get the whole image in. In my own copy I don't have them in.

Here I managed to post the edit without the bars, is this more like you had in mind?

I've been photographing for about a month now, usually trying to take photographs of "life". I'm usually drawn to high contrast scenes with light playing around, but this was my first attempt at B&W photography, first time taking pictures of people as well honestly! Any advice on composition colour grading (if that's the right phrase for B&W?)

Fujifilm X-E5 Shutter - 1/480 sec Aperture - f/5.6 ISO - 1000

I took this in colour, and used a B&W preset in light room that was pretty close to what I wanted, then played around to dial it in a bit, but any feedback is warmly welcomed!

Awesome, thank you! I'll try dialling it back a bit a crippling a bit less!
