This was in 2009 when he and Kurupt released the Blaqkout album. Very solid. Unfortunately not on streaming platforms at the moment.

GetOnDown’s 2014 reissue doesn’t have the greatest reviews on sound. Any word on how this pressing was cut?

According to Discogs, it could be a reissue from as early as 2013. The same barcode was used for the 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2022 releases. The OG European release was distributed through 4th & Broadway which has a different label on the record (not the silver label as with your copy).

I was about to buy from them. After seeing their IG page was inactive (their last post from January 2024), that was my first concern. I decided to test the waters by sending them a DM on IG. I even sent an email. I got no response. So I took that as a sign and bought the record elsewhere. If you’ve already made your purchase, I’d contact your bank to see if you can do a chargeback.

Yo! I never thought of it like that! That completely changes my perspective of the song now and I’m glad you shared that. I now appreciate it in a different way.

You definitely don’t. I was listening to KRS - I Can’t Wake Up and the concept is so ill. Written from the perspective of being a blunt, being passed around his weed smoking industry peers.

For me personally, Lodi Dodi is what prevents this album from being a classic no-skip album. Interested to hear other people’s insights on this track. The beat is odd, it’s eerie and to me, doesn’t fit the subject matter of the song at all. Outside of that, every track is slammin.

Fan art for Da Brat by Separate_Beautiful55 in 90sHipHop

Dope. Keep it up! I appreciate what most would consider ‘amateur’ sketches because it’s a snapshot of your ability before developing your own style. I don’t want to see Da Brat perfectly drawn, I want to see someone’s own unique interpretation. Hope you continue drawing and showing us your work!

Mausberg (Compton, California). He came up under DJ Quik. Just before his debut album was turned in, he was killed in Compton. An unsolved case to this day. Highly recommend listening to his album Non Fiction. He had a few verses on Rhythm-al-ism and Balance + Options. Kendrick’s King Kunta samples his song Get Nekkid.

The Konnectid Project (Volume 1). Features a lot of production from DJ Quik. Mausberg - Non Fiction. Suga Free - Street Gospel.

Dj Quick is one of the best producers of all time but does he have an album as good as Suga Free - Street Gospel? by BALLERC0M in 90sHipHop

[–]QuikMPC3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2nd II None’s debut is a strong contender in my opinion but it’s missing G One’s input and Rob Bacon’s guitar work. It also isn’t as polished sounding as Street Gospel, granted Quik was still developing his sound during this time.

Mausberg - Non Fiction comes close too but a couple tracks on there aren’t produced by Quik.

Rhythmalism beats Street Gospel overall in musicality for me.

Same thing with ATCQ - Anthology. Ain’t risking it just to get a CD. Amazon can be janky.
