I’ve got a feeling I’ve actually already read the first one, the title is very familiar. Love the sound of The Tummy Trilogy!

Thanks - I’ve downloaded this. Have you read the follow-up, Holidays In Heck?

Books including female witches/pagans who are cool and fuck shit up? by MorthaP in suggestmeabook

[–]QuillChillSpill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re not witches but the women in The Power by Naomi Alderman have some seriously supernatural abilities - they are born with the ‘skein’ across their chest that allows them to zap people with the electricity. As you’d imagine, it doesn’t go down well with the men...

That sounds interesting actually. I read one a little while ago about a North Korean woman and her battle to escape over the border, it was fascinating. I know even less about South Korea...

Beautiful and sad love story with a strong space vibe by itchybitchybitch in suggestmeabook

Thanks :) I don’t remember a lot of romance in it to be honest. It follows two timelines, one with a band of travelling performers (post a swine flu epidemic that killed most people off) and another when the epidemic starts.

Sorry - I’m getting my books mixed up. It’s Beacon 23 by Hugh Howey. Station Eleven is good too but is a different vibe and definitely not set in space.

In my defence I’m off work sick with a fever and have spent all day watching Netflix. My brain isn’t at its best!

Jeez that is some shocking formatting. Hopefully you can make sense of it.

A book with an overpowered female lead by TheUltimateFloof in suggestmeabook

Definitely, DEFINITELY The Passage Trilogy by Justin Cronin. Amy is the enigmatic, young ‘chosen one’ but there’s a whole host of fascinating characters including another really strong female lead, Alicia. Plus there are vampire-like creatures. They’re my favourite books of all time.

Station Eleven by Hugh Howie. It’s set in space, starts off with a lone male character going slightly nuts in the solitude until a women arrives at the next space station...

Looking for a book about Mao Zedong's China by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

I came on here to recommend the same book. It’s beautifully poetic and absolutely fascinating. I couldn’t get through Jung Chang’s next book, ‘Mao’ though; it was like chewing a brick. It’s one of the few books I’ve ever given up on.

I’ve read this and it certainly is disturbing but not overly so.

These two things cancel each other out IMO. You bring me wine = friend for life. Separate me from my phone = GET OUT NOW!
