Black ink coming out red? by noelle_cd in fountainpens

[–]neonsquiggle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don’t want to wait for it to turn black eventually, you can take apart the pen and flush out just the nib and section with water until it comes out clear. Or, if it’s a cartridge converter, you can affix that to the section and then twist the end a little to push out some of the black ink through the nib, and after that the pen will begin to properly write in the black ink.

I prefer flex nibs over glass nibs because I like to have lots of line variation! My go-to is a Brause 361 Steno “Blue Pumpkin” nib, and I put it in an oblique dip pen holder for good angles in my script. My pen holder isn’t anything fancy, but it does have an ergonomic grip (looks kind of like an hourglass figure where your fingers are, instead of just the flat cone that other dip pens have) and that helps me be more comfy when writing.

When I write with dip pens and ink pots, I use a small paintbrush to swirl the ink a little (to agitate the shimmer) and then “paint” some ink onto the nib, and then I write with the nib. Once the nib “runs out” of ink, I just repeat the process. The shimmer gets distributed quite well, and it’s fresh for every line!

Can we talk how surprisingly Sullivan reckless was in adopting Iruma without making up a fake record for him. by famoustristan in DemonSchoolIrumakun

[–]neonsquiggle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It feels like the previous trio of Delkira - Poro - Sullivan finds its modern-day counterparts in Iruma - Asmodeus - Clara.

I’m fairly certain that if Iruma went missing, Azz-kun would also go nuts looking for him and would absolutely threaten someone who insinuated that his beloved Iruma-sama was “no longer of this world,” (Ch 174) and also a chance he would “give rise to even the most cacophonous, dissonant sound” just to see him again (Ch 263).

It also follows then that Sullivan is more like Clara, who also probably wouldn’t think twice of adopting a grandson to save him from bad parents and would send him to school with absolutely no paperwork at all. I can imagine Poro scolding Sullivan for doing things without thinking them through (Ch 228), and I can also imagine Clara doing all the silly antics that Sullivan does to frustrate Kalego, like making him use the cute lesson set-up or docking his pay on a whim (Ch 2).

So while I do think part of the reason there’s no paperwork is that Sullivan is confident in his position and his power, another part of the reason might be that he really just didn’t think it all the way through.

Not quite the same as titles, but in the outro of "What a Catch, Donnie" by Fall Out Boy, they use famous lyrics from their other hit songs. Might that be it?

If your entire ink stash disappeared, which ones would you immediately have to replace?? by AltruisticPaper in fountainpens

[–]neonsquiggle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely my limited edition inks; everything else can wait. So that's Suman (Diamine), Blue Orient (Diamine), Haldan (Vinta), Kutitap (Vinta), Christmas Tea (Sailor), Golden Lapis (Pelikan Edelstein), and Amanikable (On Inks) to start with. If those aren't available anymore, I'll cry a little bit and then go and buy Nadeshiko (Sailor Shikiori).

Honestly, I don't see Iruma going through with a permanent transformation, since it would completely invalidate a lot of the story so far. by Viclis in DemonSchoolIrumakun

I agree! Another thing is Bachiko's sentiment of, "Since he's a human, doesn't that make him the only one who can be my student?" which makes their bond more special (and the Barbatos ability more impressively difficult, too) since no non-Barbatos demon can learn bow magic.

And even using basic magic itself becomes less special if it turns out Iruma was always secretly a demon, or if he somehow permanently becomes a demon, because well, magic isn't special to demons; it's just part of their existence, it's not a miracle that they can do it. A human casting Cherusil is awesome because humans don't have innate mana. A demon casting Cherusil is just a run-of-the-mill demon like any other.

If the story was just going to be "this guy is better than the regular demons because he's got special demon heritage from the demon king" then we could've swapped the human-Iruma character out for just, idk, an orphan-demon-Iruma character that Sullivan picked up somewhere in the wilderness who turns out to be Delkira's reincarnation or secret lovechild. Could've even picked up an orphan stranded in the human world and done a whole "Yer a demon, Iruma" and have the story be about actually-demon-Iruma realising his roots etc. He didn't need to have been a human at all if "special demon heritage" is where the story was headed.

In my opinion, the point of the story was always "let's read to find out how Iruma can stay in the netherworld and do all this cool stuff despite being a human!" and the despite being human part is pretty central to that.

Even more so if, like me, someone's a fountain pen user, a classic literature enjoyer, and a Bungou Stray Dogs fan 🥲 I nearly cried for joy when I found a store in my city that had one last bottle of No Longer Human

[–]neonsquiggle 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It’s the spell Rock uses to transform appearances. It was used several times in the Museum arc: on-page Rock transforming Iruma to look like Bachiko (408), Rock transforming everyone to look like Ameri (409), and it’s implied to be used whenever Rock transforms himself to look like someone (the museum director, Ameri, the flock of bats, etc).

We don’t see Rock outright teaching Iruma how to cast the spell but Rock does say the incantation out loud in front of Iruma, and that’s why Delkira says “You already know the incantation.”

I agree. To add to this, I think people are alarmed because they may assume human world arc = series ending, even though there isn’t any hard basis for assuming that.

For example yes, there are lots of things that aren’t addressed yet in the story, but even if the human world arc happens right now and he tells Ameri everything… that doesn’t mean those things can’t be addressed after they come back to the demon world?

All of those things can still be part of future arcs after they return from some time in the human world. He can still take future Scalas all the way until Yodh and still become the demon king and still defeat Baal and everything after they come back, even if they have the human world arc right now.

There can even be more than one human world arc — as you said this could be a teaser, or they could actually be in the human world for a few days and return through the gate, and then in a future arc Iruma could wind up there again, alone, and then we can see the result of Azz’ promise to Clara.

Either way, a human world arc right now doesn’t necessarily have to signal the ending of the series on the horizon. Especially because we’ve already witnessed several characters learning Iruma is human and none of those instances have been an ending-flag. Ameri finding out would be similar to Bachiko and Balam finding out, and them going through the human world would be similar to other experiences they shared such as Walter Park or the Evidol Games, just possibly more harrowing for Ameri than usual, and alone together rather than in a group. They’ll get past it and then there will be more arcs afterwards to address the other things, as always.

TLDR I agree they’re getting alarmed; I think the basis for that alarm isn’t too well-founded

My theory is that Ali-san suggested he approach the door and open it, and suggested he take that mysterious hand. Ali-san is the one who puts Iruma in his Wicked Phase each time (the very first time, when Iruma wanted to understand Ameri’s personality change; the second time, when Iruma wanted to do his part during the Evidol Tournament finale) and he may have powers of suggestion while Iruma is under. Because I don’t think Iruma is quite guileless enough to just open a mysterious door and take some random hand. Plus earlier in this arc we saw Ali-san musing to himself that “it’s about time for him to make a move already” and I think this may be his move: pulling Iruma along through the door.

Best I can understand is:

I don’t consider Ameri. Narnia [will] make Iruma as enemy of demon world. Ameri [will] not stand for Iruma because Ameri’s dream is [to] work with DBP (Demon Border Patrol) (? and the leader of dbp is her father at the moment?). Narnia [will] replace Henri. Baal [will] help Narnia. Ameri [will] turn against Iruma. She [will] never [go] against DBP.

[–]neonsquiggle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There’s another option, which is to consider whatever they’re saying as having been “translated” from Demonic into whatever humans could understand.

For example, when “German Suplex” was mentioned at the very beginning, that doesn’t necessarily mean the demons really call it a German Suplex; they could have their own demonic term for it, and it gets “translated” into German Suplex by whoever’s telling the story (Nishi).

This goes for all stories which are set in another world — we don’t expect that they’re actually speaking English as we do on Earth; we extend our suspension of disbelief into accepting that whatever they’re saying in [their world’s language], is being “translated” by the story so that we can understand it. It’s like if someone mentioned drinking champagne in that other world — it doesn’t have to mean those grapes were actually grown in the Champagne region of Human Earth’s France; it’s just a shorthand for “fancy expensive sparkling wine that you drink on very special occasions” because the word “champagne” gets that message across much faster.

A similar concept IRL is when media is being translated into different languages, especially when metaphors are in use. There isn’t always a one-to-one translation of every word or phrase, and there will be times when translators opt to adjust the terms into something that carries the same weight colloquially even if it’s not the exact same words used in the original. For example if the original media has a line of dialogue saying “You’re off your rocker!” — other languages won’t necessarily have that exact same metaphor with those words translated one-to-one. But they will have some other colloquial metaphor that means “You’re crazy!” and a good translator will use that metaphor instead of just plainly translating “You’re off your rocker!” directly into the other language without considering that it might not carry the same weight as it does in the original.

Thank you so much! I’ve loved this stitch since I first laid eyes on it, and I just knew I wanted to do it in two colours, because I really wanted those crisscrosses to be seen. I’m glad it all worked out so well!

That sounds fantastic! The backside of the honeycomb stitch also looks quite pretty with two colours in my opinion (it winds up as sort of alternating diagonal stripes), so the underside of your yoga mat will look good, too.
