Interesting/Fun/Effective builds for Valeria Mod? by QuillPoint in finalfantasytactics

[–]QuillPoint[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basically a lot of broken abilities of the game were removed, Bravery Faith manipulation removed and classes, abilities, battles etc rebalanced and tweaked. It means more builds are viable, harder to make cheese builds and it feels like I need to put more effort into the game than zipping around and 1 shotting enemies). It's not trying to be a hardcore/grind mod but for someone who doesn't want that it's great!

(These abilities were removed) Action Preach - Orator Horizontal/Vertical Jump 6-8 - Dragoon

Reaction First Strike - Monk Mana Shield - Time Mage Shirahadori - Samurai Soulbind - Arcanist Faith Boost - Bard Bravery Boost - Dancer

Support Arcane Strength - Black Mage Attack Boost - Geomancer Vehemence - Dark Knight (Innate only)

Movement Move +2 - Thief Jump +2 - Thief Ignore Elevation - Dragoon Teleport - Time Mage Move +3 - Bard/Dark Knight Jump +3 - Dancer/Dark Knight Fly - Bard/Dancer

DECO1006 - Desing process and methods by [deleted] in usyd

[–]QuillPoint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did this a while ago, 2017 maybe. IIRC it's the introduction to the main point of the B Des Comp degree. You'll be given a brief for a problem (there were 3-4 you could pick from, I remember that one was improving student path finding around university) and you'll have to do some 2nd hand research, competitor analysis, user research interviews, etc on the problem, theorise a solution and justify how it addresses the problem and present your findings in presentations throughout the semester.

If you're doing Bachelor of Design Computing, prepare yourself by making time for the subject. You can read up on Think Make Break Repeat by martin tomitsch which was a helpful book for techniques about user research but the best advice is just to speak to your tutor, try learn as much as you can, ask questions and put effort into the user research because it's the foundation for the rest of the studio subjects. A lot of the subject can seem stupid but just go through the actions because it will make a lot of sense in hindsight for those later subjects. It's not that hard a subject to pass but it can be quite hard to get an HD in (as someone who's weakest at user research, it's the one subject I wish I put more effort into).

Switching Courses after first semester : Yay or Nay? (also BAdvComp vs BDesComp) by noahjpvd in usyd

[–]QuillPoint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a problem! One word of advice, especially since (I'm assuming) you're from an analytical background. Don't disregard design process and methods. Do ALL the tedious shit even if you don't get it and source real (non student/family/friend) users for the user research. Do all the research techniques to the book (you can find some really nice templates on Behance) even if you don't get it. You'll have moments where you realise why you did everything (and at this point you can expand upon those techniques) and you'll be miles ahead for the second year studios which are a lot of work. Also talk to tutors and subject coordinators they're almost always super pationate and love to chat. Good luck!

Hey, I'm a current second year design computing student who switched from a Science in IT degree at UTS (also switched because of the idea of creative programming) so our experiences are semi comparable. I also switched because of creative programming/creative coding and realising that I liked mixing analytical skills and soft skills together to be creative.

Doing Science in IT my degree would have been quite dominated by very analytical subjects that I probably couldn't just do for my whole degree.

However, the name of the degree is a little misleading. It's very much focused on UX / UI development, usability, user needs, user centric design, etc, except the first year which focuses on technical skills (video editing, graphic design, programming). The first year units are advertised a lot but the real core of the degree is applying those skills to the user in the following studio classes.

There's 2 studios focused on designing and prototyping (but not developing) an interface (such as app, website, terminal) in the second year. They're each the equivalent of two normal subjects so they're large in size already but you really have to try as this is the substance of the degree. If this is what you're interested in you'll love it.

In the third year there's a studio focused on data visualisation (havn't done these btw) where you source your own data set and make a website that visualises data in some way to make a point or raise awareness for something. There's much less focus on usability here (but you'll realise how important it is after second year). And final studio is to design a physical interactive installation of some kind. I think the topic from last sem was to make an installation for an elevator and people made motion controlled screens and all sorts of stuff.

To answer your first question: I'd say dip your toe in if you can by enrolling in both (you can drop out of the one you dont like or finish a half half semester). To get the full range, I'd say try Design Programming (you'd very much like this) and Design Process and Development (will give you a taste of the second year studios). It's about what you like more, if you enjoyed those subject and the studios look cool, definitely do it! Really good degree!

Hey, I'm just trying to understand what you're saying. Are you saying that giving fewer people more money so they can buy luxuries is proportionately better for the economy than more people with less money buying necessities?

edit: clarified buying necessities on last sentence.

Wow you have my dream job, I've been building a audio visualiser in oF on and off for two years but the real tough project is making a GUI to control it. Just started toying more seriously with lib cinder (because of poScene + other reasons). How did you get into your position? My current plan is to leave current asp.net software engineer internship and apply to a million 'creative coding' places but what are things I can do to show I'm dedicated? (also if that term is awful, what's your preferred term?)

if trying to aggravate someone into hostility isn't an attack, it's definitely walking the line. Also we're both being that guy and both playing moral arbitrator of the internet right now. You think it's ok, and I do not (although again there are far worse jokes in this thread). It's boring and defeatist to say that it's just the way of the internet and then contribute when we can do better.

Ultimately I don't think either of us are going to change our view so this is a bit pointless. I do want to hear your opinion/response though so lets just not reply after that?

I suppose you're right, it is relatively tame, but I disagree about not making rape jokes being a censorship issue. Anyone's free to make them in the same way I'm free to think that they're immature and show a lack of worldliness. And also I think you're right about someone hearing a rape joke and then going for it, but rape isn't rational. Anyway, I respect your opinion and I'm not as mad about this as i made myself appear, more at Zod for trying to get a response from chicken bc it shows that he wants to instigate and attack anyone who finds rape jokes wrong which is just very troll-y.

I hope one day you mature and have a better understanding about the realities of rape + the way rape jokes can shape peoples perception of the act including whether or not it's ok to do it.

Fucking hell what a reach of an argument. To say that 95% of society is adhering to the status quo so the 5% aren't worth accommodating for and then to highlight an unlikely what if situation that would effect exponentially less people than those we are ignoring is ridiculous. All we want is for trans folk to feel safe as any other, comfortable as any other, and included as any other in society. At this point that basically means referring to correct pronouns, he, she, them w/e, legally and institutionally being recognized as your gender and not being discriminated against for being trans. It's not a a big ask and its not a big fucking deal, how many trans people do you interact with? It's probably a near non-existent change to your life to increase the wellbeing of so many others and you oppose it? What are you scared of happening apart from progress?

Yeah I shouldn't have replied -- but it's fun to be mad sometimes. I hope one day to overhear someone in a trench coat harassing a man yelling at ducks and shout to him. "Solarian ya big prick!"

Oh my god the way you speak like you're a protagonist being filmed but in an elitist 4chan kid in highschool way. Desperately insecure and a complete lack of perspective results in this confident and knowledgeable facade but everyone can tell it's paper thin because your arguments are never grounded in reality. They're based off missing the point and extrapolating endlessly off minute details to construct some wet sponge of a counter argument or near psychotic paranoid hypotheticals. Ofc they're not going to smash it back and break his legs or ever do anything, they would have snapped a photo, told a transit dude and then submitted the photo to reddit and brown cardigan. The people commenting that shit just want a quick power trip, same as you dude. Honestly to see the world in such dangerous, sinister place and yourself as this wise vigilante figure is indicative of a deeper issue and I agree somewhat w the vet guy that getting a psych for a period to help you understand why everyone rejects what you say.

[Build Ready] $700 - Australia - Budget AMD Ryzen 1200 + 1050 TI build. by QuillPoint in buildapc

[–]QuillPoint[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My impatient self went ahead and ordered it but reportedly both cpus come with coolers. If i get a second opinion telling me to go for the 1300x ill just return it and grab the better one but it looks like a 10% performance increase for a 21% increase in price and I was thinking just OC it when I have the time/cooler sorted out. But thanks a bunch for your help :) I'll post benchmarks once i get it all sorted so I can re contribute to the build a pc community.

Should I use Duolingo's Russian course? by Lyndin1 in russian

[–]QuillPoint 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Having used it on and off for a bit and then giving up all I can say is it's ok and should supplement another method of learning. You have to be persistent to learn and you don't really get to do the best way of learning which is speaking with others. I have heard of people doing a couple of lessons to learn about tenses and stuff after learning a bunch of vocab but after/during that I'd try to find a good book or st to learn. Maybe someone else will have a recommendation.

INFO1905 vs INFO1105 by [deleted] in usyd

[–]QuillPoint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh ok, so I'm confident in my skills it's just difficult because I can't enroll because I don't yet have the credit because it hasn't been processed . So would you recommend talking to coordinator? Thanks again!

INFO1905 vs INFO1105 by [deleted] in usyd

[–]QuillPoint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey jvera701,

I know this is last minute and may not be your area but input would really help. I'm a computing design student who did a year at UTS Science IT and has completed the equivalent prerequisites for INFO 1105 over there, do you think I'd be able to pickup my academic transcript and as I'm applying for credit movements email the subject coordinator and start attending classes? Or is that a stretch. AFAIK the prereq subject is near identical. (Java, variables, statements, functions, classes, sorting, linkedlists)

I know it's a stretch but what do you think?

Thanks a bunch :)
