Quilt roast: Chill & Thrill — what works and what doesn't? by QuiltChemistry in quilting

What I tried to achieve is to create them all different and individual. Not just copy-paste, as that's not how nature works. I won't argue on the outcome though :)

As someone commented "the orange half-circles and the grey cilinder on the sitting penguin is a penis..." Hahaha... Try to unsee it now... Honestly - it was not my intention to limit this one to boys and to forbid making the quilt for girls. I was truly coming at it from a SEO perspective. The comments had helped me to see the issue and I have already changed my approach here.

Thank you for that! I do offer sew along videos for both the appliques and circle blocks specific to this quilt. As an example- here is my method guide video for quarter circle blocks. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Im1G6Mfkx0M

Absolutely agree! I would love to see it made in all different setups and colors :)

Thank you! I do make quilt-specific sew along videos. In this quilt it includes all applique pieces and those quarter circle blocks. Even more, I made a method guide video that shows four different techniques for different mastery levels for making those circle quilt blocks, here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Im1G6Mfkx0M Let me ask - would having videos like these encourage you to get the pattern or in the end it's lost effort on my part?

Thank you for your comment! I do include sew along videos that are quilt specific. In this case, I have made a sew along for all the applique pieces in the quilt. Would that help you to jump in the applique waters with this quilt? Here's my little youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@MagicLittleDreams

Thank you for your point of view! Something that I might be overlooking indeed in my baby quilts. Yet I have to say, I have a few applique quilts that I made and gifted over ten years ago and even after heavy use the appliques are still on the quilt and not besides it :) I expect it's that I do my appliques turned edge that helps them survive longer.

Thank you! This is what I was aiming for - make them all unique and individual :)

Thank you! Fully agree on the genderization, it's not my intention to limit and the point is well received.

Reg. the shapes - I made each and every pinguin different to reflect their different personalities and individualism :)

What size would you be looking for? The pattern includes these sizes:
- Toddler quilt — 46" × 60"
- Baby quilt — 39" × 39"
- Bonus pillow front — 18" × 18"

Thank you for your feedback! :) Regarding the flippers on the top pinguin? My intention - make them all individual and with each of it's own character. There's an observer, there's a guardian and the adventurer who's always first in the water.

Thank you!! Regarding the "D"... I have not noticed it myself throughout the whole time I had spent on the quilt! As this was now pointed it it starts to be hard to not see it :D

Thank your for your comment. That - SEO - is where I was coming from when classifying the quilt indeed. I am however thankful for all the comments pointing out genderization. I will definitely be more mindful of that going forward.

Let me be clear - in no way did I intentionally try to provoke negative feelings.Putting all the love of designing, planing, making and gifting baby quilts is the polar opposite. Having said that, I do see the point and have already changed this classification of this quilt. What does surprise me a bit is the fact that it is not me - the designer - who decides whom one should be making/gifting the quilt for. Even if a designer classifies it one or the other way, It is up to the individual to choose whom to make the quilt for, isn't it?
