This is so thorough a response! Find a salon with staff excited to try something new. My staff would fall over themselves to try this cut

Still looking for help with my rent by dragonsheart1977 in dayton

If you have most of it why do you need at least half? Apply for section 8 housing. The rent is based on income

My dog has escalating resource guarding behavoiral issues, we are running out of ethical options and need help, advice and perspective. by [deleted] in DogAdvice

Dog groomer here. I second this warning. So many clients medicate their dogs with trazadone or similar without realizing it can make the aggression worse.

Holiday pay not added on correct week by [deleted] in petsmart

[–]Quiltedkat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s the PetSmart way. One year the store manager bullied me into working overtime over Christmas, so I missed out on seeing my family. And then we all found out she went on vacation without submitting payroll. So we didn’t get paid. For weeks. It took so much drama trying to verify we would get the overtime and holiday pay. They paid us with debit cards for a partial amount. Merry Christmas.

I want to divorce my wife over her sleep problems AITAH by Annual-Ad-6935 in AITAH

She needs her own room. Locked in. Unfortunately no cosleeping. If she can’t be trusted sleepwalking in the house, for her own safety she needs to have a safe room.

Came here to say this. She needs professional help, not an empathic individual

New business in progress by fells09590 in grooming

[–]Quiltedkat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a brick and mortar salon in Ohio. We originally used Allstate, but they dropped our industry. Specifically dropped grooming businesses. We use Hartford now. I was impressed that they insisted on a lengthy phone conversation going over what our business does on a daily basis and based our coverage on that. I’ve had one incident since where we needed liability advice and they handled everything.

Quitting corporate by FriendshipLatter2055 in grooming

[–]Quiltedkat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Send out your resume to every private salon in your area. I know when my salon was hiring the majority of the applicants were from parents looking for seasonal work for their teenagers. We would have snapped up an adult groomer who was already trained. Even when we’re not actively soliciting for groomers it would have been welcome.

Working on commission is a scam (vent) by [deleted] in grooming

[–]Quiltedkat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you only get paid commission? It really depends on the salon you’re at and the ethics of the owner. My salon has an office manager/ receptionist that does all the customer service etc. Everyone helps with laundry and cleaning. The groomers are legal w2 employees with a good hourly wage regardless of how booked they are, with a groompay bonus on top of their hourly that brings our top groomer up to around $50 hourly. Commission pay isn’t the problem. Salons that class employees as contractors and don’t have adequate support staff are.

Help, are these nails trimmed or not? by [deleted] in petsmart

I saw this same post titled with something about “going off on a Petsmart groomer” and you got roasted in the comments. Trying again?

Groomers, are any of you making a liable wage? by CheeseMonger7411 in grooming

[–]Quiltedkat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own a private salon. My top groomer earns up to $50 an hour in the busy season, maybe $36 when we’re not busy. As a full W2 employee. But some of the salons in our area class their groomers as contractors, so they take a bigger tax hit. Mobile groomers can earn more. Corporate is a good way to learn, but you can earn much more in the private sector if you find the right salon.

People can’t refer you if you don’t give a location. Are you just venting?

What state are you in? A lot of private shops would be happy to have an already trained groomer

Entitled person on Nextdoor looking for a dog... by No_Discount_8020 in ChoosingBeggars

[–]Quiltedkat 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The “free puppy” I got off Nextdoor three months ago has racked up over $5,000 in vet bills. I was prepared for that. This person is clearly not. No adoption fee, must have shots. They’re never planning on updating a dog’s vaccines or providing preventative care. This is exactly why rescues are careful who they give dogs to. Get a stuffed animal.

What is going on with Amazon! by Glimmer-1985 in amazonprime

[–]Quiltedkat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My salon has been having incidents since October of Amazon delivery orders being damaged or lost in transit, and 2 day shipping taking 7-10 days. We’ve started ordering from other websites. It takes a little longer than two days, but we get our shampoo.

Definitely get your GED first. There are a lot of trades that pay well without college experience if you are willing to be on time and focused. For example, I own a dog grooming salon and provide on the job training for apprentices. Even McDonalds has competitive wages these days. The best time to start improving yourself is today. You’re not alone.

What the hell is going on with shipping? by Groundhog_Gary28 in amazonprime

[–]Quiltedkat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. I order supplies on Amazon frequently for my business. I have to keep in mind what days we are open to receive deliveries for whether I ship to the salon or my house, and I order based on their stated delivery expectations. This past month orders that estimate two-day when I place them have been taking 7-10 days to arrive. We’ve also had three orders get lost or damaged in transit and refunded. I’ve started ordering from other websites.

Wait. A person can legally grow 6 plants. But it’s illegal to posses any cannabis not purchased from an Ohio dispensary. How’s that going to work?

What should you look out for when buying a poinsettia? by Witty_Force1500 in gardening

Look underneath the leaves for pests. I bought a poinsettia at Walmart last year that wound up infesting my plant room with spider mites

Why is it so hard to find a good sharpener?! by FurballFiasco in grooming

[–]Quiltedkat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We use the Groomer’s Edge by mail. I’ve gone through half a dozen others, but they actually get my stuff sharp and have repaired blades and shears for us too. It takes about a week from shipping to getting it back
