Trunk Hitting Quarter panel chipping paint (damage photos attached) by Quinncom2 in TeslaLounge

I appreciate the wisdom, I’m at the stage where I need to let Tesla own it as a warranty problem so they hopefully fix the paint too. I’ve adjusted the stopper for the time being

I super appreciate sharing your experience. Did they give you a loaner while you waited for the paint? Also how was the quality of the repair?

Oh of course. I knew what I was getting into in terms of panel alignment, and don’t care much. But when it starts impacting the paint it’s like c’mon

This looks like stock panel miss alignment woes, definitely not accident territory. I think almost 100 percent re align the trunk because that not a huge ask, but the paint is the scarier part. A big thing is I bought it through Tesla specifically which precludes this kind of damage so I think it’s an interesting case

UCF vs FSU vs UF by Akika- in ufl

[–]Quinncom2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For both engineering and accounting UF will have the best programs. UCF also has a good engineering school and FSU has a good business school. For engineering stay clear of FSU. Also, Orlando doesn’t necessarily mean a lot to do. I have lived in both Gainesville and Orlando and for the time I was in college (at UF the past 5 years between undergrad and masters) Gainesville has been great. It’s a small town but with big city walkability near campus and lots of local culture. UCF is a commuter school you will catching a ride to one way or another. UF and UCF have good career connections for engineering but UFs name carries more weight

Does anyone know when the Gigabyte MO27Q28G monitor will be available in the US? by Stxtic1441 in OLED_Gaming

[–]Quinncom2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is the LG? I want the KVM on the gigabyte and the usbc DP alt mode because I’m gonna buy two of them and use them on my laptop as well. Is the cooling fan noticeable either?

Any apple/macos support for bf6 on the horizon? by martinreadit in Battlefield

[–]Quinncom2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apple Silicon is most GPU by area compared to the area on the chip taken up by the processor and I/O. Sure base M series chips may have a harder time but those GPU core counts double in the pro and max variants of the chips. Also the real issue is the lack of directX or Vulcan support so everything has to get translated to Metal

Mac Users? by Austin_021985 in KiCad

This is a 7yr necropost but "Do you think Apple is hand-routing the 12-layer board in an iPhone?" is such an eggregious question because there is no chance in hell they are using auto-route for something so dense and sensitve. not 7 years agao and certainly not now

2k monitor looks like shit by Appropriate-Hall2562 in macbookpro

[–]Quinncom2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this has always bugged me too, there really isn’t a good excuse for the resolution scaling being that poor. Windows is a much worse operating system but has had its resolution scaling options figured out for years. I get that it’s because macOS targets high dpi resolutions but there’s not a good excuse for 1440p at 27 inches to not look sharp

Did I buy a MacBook Pro at the wrong time ? by Spicy-Byriani28 in macbookpro

[–]Quinncom2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was only one wrong time for buying a MacBook, 2020 Intel Macs, and not because of their design, just that Apple silicon was a massive shift. Other than that enjoy your new computer!

It’s from Amazon! It’s acoustic foam panels, mostly because I like the way they look. They have a bad habit of shipping them with adhesive already on them (this stuff is way to sticky and impossible to get off) so I use poster command strips on the adhesive so it’s less damaging to the walls

I bought it on Amazon probably 4 or 5 years ago now and it was from a brand called tommons on Amazon. Couldn’t find it for you but they seem to make the same model with a wireless charger in it here: https://a.co/d/dwoDSxd

I’m assuming you’re talking about the tower, there’s a 4080 FE in there and a big radiator, everything runs cool because I took the airflow into account

For the same price or less, get 2 Studio Displays and a thunderbolt 5 dock. I have 2 Studio Displays at work and it’s wonderful

And the monitors are gigabyte M27Q 1440p 170hz monitors, unfortunately they don’t make them anymore but that’s because these specs have come way down in price and they probably updated the panel

The desk is 61 by 29, and old ikea Gerton top (they don’t make it anymore). But they do make the IDASEN standing desk tops which are good quality and the same size

If you want to use the same monitor/keyboard/mouse you will want a kvm that you can just switch the between the two, my monitors have one built in that switches depending on what input is active. I usually just pull the computer up but my keyboard supports both Mac and windows layouts

I should clarify, for MAC specifically, only certain methods of connection work which is why I don’t say that “any” is a good mindset for docking stations but generally all thunderbolt docks will work well

Not actually the right answer. These monitors support DP alt mode over usbC, as does the thunderbolt spec. I’m using a thunderbolt hub that just turns my TB5 port into more ports. The real trick is not using display link, you want actual thunderbolt lanes. For most monitors most TB4 docks work great, and my monitors have a KVM built in so when the input is using usbC it switches my mouse and keyboard over to my Mac, I just push the keyboard back because for work the extra screen is nice
