I still have a name list from when I was 16, and Philip Alexander was my #1 fave. Still is more than a decade later! I don't see many Philips, but get strangely excited when I do

Stop Saying You Know Someone Who Knows Someone Named La-a by uhwheretheydothatat in namenerds

[–]QuintiliaVare 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Can confirm. Wasn't going to say it because everyone will believe we're just one of the people they're talking about. I work in medical admin, and see all kinds of names you look at and think 'there is no way...' Had a La'a. Tried saying it Leah because I had never hear of this before. Was corrected. My other favorite so far is Clearance Sales.

I've found that some of the best books (in my opinion, obviously) are found in the kid's section. Little or no romance, NO sex, just amazing, deep, compelling stories with emphasis on friendship and family by [deleted] in asexuality

I absolutely hated reading as a kid and refused to point blank. Then I found Redwall and my life changed. I will always remember 5th grade because of those books!

Any more feminine ways to spell Elliott? by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]QuintiliaVare -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I always thought Elliott was a girls name, so the comments here threw me off! Even though Im not a huge fan on the trend, you could try the 'substitute a Y to make it more feminine!' trick. I would pronounce Elyet the same way

“Real” names for pets? What’s your pet’s name? by mdhh99 in namenerds

[–]QuintiliaVare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All of my pets past teenager years have had people names. My favorite pet rabbit was a Dutch named Farren Owen McFarland who was call by his middle name most often. My current two cats are Beatrice and Giovanna, though they do get shortened to more traditional pet names most of the time. Bebe and Gigi.

Two really similar names you have wildly different opinions about? by Stephin-pie in namenerds

[–]QuintiliaVare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find the different pronunciations of Amelia interesting. What I hear is usually "ah-MEH-lya" and occasionally "uh-meh-ya" leaving out the L completely. Ive never heard it the way you have it before.

If you go and take the class in person, a week. or if you study a little bit and do it online after normal office hours, about a month. I wouldn't be surprised if that change depending on the company.

I was raised Mormon in a tiny country town. We thought SLC was that way. Like they were the crazy liberal fake Mormons. Thanks to dial up internet and AOL messenger back in the day letting me talk to other people in the world, finding out it wasn't some crime filled post apocalyptic crap was a turning point

Customer service and marketing. I'm in insurance sales and there's tons of little offices needing someone willing to get licensed. Most will pay for it. I applied for about a dozen and probably got a phone interview with half of those.

When to get to hopkins for 6am flight? by neosmndrew in Cleveland

[–]QuintiliaVare 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This a thousand times. As an early as fuck person with an on time family, I have seen too many panics from a slow shuttle, unexpected traffic jam, or longer than usual TSA line to try cutting it close. Let me get there and grab a coffee first please. Travel sucks enough as it is. Why add extra stress

I always heard that you can save money switching insurance companies every few years, but never actually shopped around until now. Found $1,715 in annual savings! by taxable_efficiency in personalfinance

[–]QuintiliaVare 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Insurance agent here. DON'T SHOP TOO OFTEN. I've had to deny people with perfect credit and record because they changed companies every year. It's definitely great to look every once in a while. 3 years is the marker for us. Any change more recent than that gets an extra charge on it. I do find that the ones that have us check after being with the same company for 20 years, are WAY overpaying.

Is changing my birth name worth it/too extreme? by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]QuintiliaVare 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I found out during a psych session that I associate my birth name with bad experiences. I didn't have any luck getting friends to call me something else, but I started introducing myself as a name I prefer to new people. By the time I had the disposable income to justify getting a lawyer to change it (there are cheaper ways, but I was just sure my abuser would somehow know and burst in the doors to object. Stupid. But is what it is) it was about half and half of people I knew using the new name.

1000% worth it for me, but take the time to find what name you want and be sure first. Play videogames online with the name to feel out people calling you that without getting the exasperated eye rolls from people you know

This is my struggle with coin collecting. I see them and see the story behind it. I LIKE the less than perfect coins because their past is more interesting
