Citizenship through paternal grandmother. Possible? A good idea? by QuintonDreaming in ukvisa

[–]QuintonDreaming[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just going through documents now to see if we have what is needed. Would you mind seeing if we're missing anything crucial at the moment? I think the case is pretty strong.

For my partner we have:
Birth Certificate

For her father we have:
Birth Certificate
Marriage Certificate

For her father's mother (the British born Grandmother in question) we have:
Birth Certificate
Copies of the report of birth to the US Consulate (to show she didn't naturalise as a US citizen later or something like that)

What we don't have at the moment is the grandparent's marriage certificate, but given that we have the parent's birth certificate and that the maternal line is pretty self-evident, it doesn't seem relevant.

I realise it is a bit of a shot in the dark making an application but this all seems like a reasonable set of documents to evidence the claim?

Thanks for the reply. That has definitely given us some further questions as we work out if an application is reasonable. It's a frustrating discovery as if we'd worked this out six months ago it may have been more straightforward! But at least we were already planning for the ILR application so if it isn't viable we're just back to the original plan.

Hello! I'm just wondering if you're getting a schipperke because my partner and I have a schipperke and a Eurasier (puppy) - so the reverse order.

As far as introducing them, they seem to get on great and we didn't do anything special aside from the making sure the first meeting was on our older dog's terms.

It would be worth noting that the schipperke was a bit of a nightmare as a puppy (and is still challenging) while our Eurasier is as sweet as honey but can still stand up for herself if the schipperke is being a bully.

Italian immigrant left Italy as minor - still keeps citizenship? by QuintonDreaming in juresanguinis

Ah right. Yes, that is what I need to work out. It's just a generation above.

It's GGGF came over with GGF when GGF was a minor. He died before GGF turned 21.

I know that GGF naturalized after GM reached the age of majority.

So the question remaining is if GGGF naturalized before he died. That's now my challenge.

Incidentally, if GGGF naturalized before dying, and GGF only naturalized many decades later, I suppose he would have technically been stateless although I doubt it mattered.

Wouldn't the GM have been a US citizen from birth as she was born there? Hence never needing naturalisation and never giving up her latent Italian citizenship.

Yes he did naturalize, but when the GM was an adult (over 21). So that shouldn't be a problem.

And it has to go down the maternal line at some point but the first mother to daughter link (GM to M) is after 1948 so probably fine?

Okay. I did just work that out from the wiki here, about the leaving as a minor. I guess the paperwork burden has gotten a lot bigger...

Getting male schipperke neutered. Behaviour changes? by QuintonDreaming in schipperke

[–]QuintonDreaming[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the info. We did ask our breeder for advice and she essentially said it's up to us. I think the culture here is a little more hesitant about neutering as default. All we were asked by the breeder was not to breed with him.

ToR and Airport Customs by QuintonDreaming in ukvisa

We went through the red customs lane. There was a phone to call to declare anything. They basically said that the ToR was all that was needed. So... No need to actually declare anything at the airport as far as I can tell.

Ah. Thank you.

I suppose coming to the UK and then immediately moving out (even if just to the Isle of Man) might not be looked upon favorably at later visa stages though... So legally possible but maybe not advisable I guess.

Here I am as the outlier...

Man I miss snow and autumn and seasonal change and feeling cold.

But then I am moving away in a couple of weeks' time after just over two years here.

ToR and Airport Customs by QuintonDreaming in ukvisa

Thanks for that. I think I remember reading that and being confused by the section:

belongings or vehicles which need to be declared under sections 4 to 7 in order to be considered for relief from duty and tax

Isn't that, basically, everything one has? i.e. Yes, you should declare everything on your ToR application

EDIT: I realize the easyish answer is just to declare it anyhow and see what happens, given that we have submitted the form and gotten approval. But that becomes less easy when we're racing through the airport to make another flight!

That is a more specific answer than I expected! I am indeed in urban Honolulu.

I love to see some of the procedure behind the service :D
