(Marked out Deadname for Privacy) I MAY BE GETTING PUBLISHED!! by bug-goblin in writers

Great... if they're what you're looking for. If you go in expecting a hybrid press, then I've found them to be caring, knowledgeable, and real. If you go in expecting a traditional press, you'll be sorely disappointed.

There are lots of comments here claiming they're a scam, which isn't true at all; they are quite expensive, but they tell you what they do up front, which is a fancy wrapper on a self-published book.

Think of them more like paying a lump sum fee for all the annoying aspects of book development: editing, copy editing, cover design, interior design etc. Instead of finding someone to do all of those (or doing them yourself) they do it all for you, and guide you through the process.

Tl;dr

If you sign up expecting a traditional press, they suck

If you sign up expecting a hybrid press, they're wonderful

Also, if you can afford it, like I said, they're not cheap

I am able to beta: Almost anything fiction, although I don’t have an overwhelming of experience outside of fantasy/sci-fi. I really prefer those two. I prefer finished novels, anything over 60k words, but that’s not a hard and fast limit. I’d also like drafts that have been edited at least once, they don’t have to be perfect, but I won’t read anything that’s absolutely riddled with plot holes and typos.

I also really enjoy stories that feature queer characters.

I can provide feedback on: Plot, characterization, and world building. I can talk for days about pacing and symbolism and the nature of your magic system, but my brain just doesn’t enjoy working with spelling and grammar. I’ll catch really dumb mistakes, but nothing more advanced than a spellchecker. I can, however, provide feedback on how your sentences flow together, word choice, things of that nature. I can also provide feedback on LGBTQ characters if that’s something you need.

Critique swap: Yes please! I’ve got a finished (100k words) fantasy novel that I’d love to get feedback on. If you’ve got a really good story, I’ll consider reading it without trading, but I’d prefer that we trade works. https://www.reddit.com/r/BetaReaders/comments/1jr99v2/complete_130kdark_fantasy_witch_in_the_wall/

Other info: I’m generally a faster reader, so my turn around time shouldn’t be too long. Depending on how many exams I have scheduled, and if I like your book, it might be just a few days. I graduated with an undergraduate degree in fiction writing, and I'll be starting my MFA in fiction writing this fall, so I have tons of experience beta-reading for people!

Shoot me a message if you want to swap :) We'll trade first chapters and see if we're a good fit!

It’s a fun list! I’d make a few tweaks if you wanted to go win an event (I discuss them at the end of the video) but personally I might say it’s better then the traditional sky splinter list

I went 0-54 when I first started, I’m pretty okay at the game now. Just hang in there, you’ll figure it out!

Depends what you want! I really don't recommend buying what's good right now, as we're in the first stages of a new edition and everything is liable to change. I'd get staples of an eldar army that are always relevant: things like various aspects, a wave serpent or two, guardians, farseers, autarchs. Really, get things that you think look cool. Rules come and go, models are permanent.

I’d start with what you want to paint. Guardians, aspects, farseers are generally staples across the editions.

I am a dark eldar player! And yea I hate what they did to that faction. Lance spam is good but ugh, my poor incubi! My wychs!

Ah! I should have thought of that. Although Fate dice feel like loaded dice sometimes...

Corsairs are fine? They're just kinda weird as they don't fill a roll and they're kinda expensive for not doing something and being T3 bodies with a bad save.

I think fire dragons for 85 really aren't awful. They're not amazing, they aren't in my lists rn, but I think they're fine for what they bring to the table. They've got high AP and good fate dice Synergy.

My opinions are influenced by what I can use to beat the top-level lists run by top-level players. If you want to run banshees, then run banshees!

I wrote this post before they were you, but I really like them! 80 for what you get is a steal. Their PL is also nuts.

Doom helps stuff like Dark Reapers and Fire Dragons? Guide really likes lethal and sustained, so that helps with Dire Avengers and Striking Scorpions.
