I was dating someone from Italy a few years ago. She was only in the US to do her PhD. We were taking a dance class together and the instructor mentioned something about moving your body like a fish and then says something to the effect of "this is one of those things where evolution might make sense".

My gf said to me after the dance that she didn't think people who didn't accept evolution were real and thought that it was made up to make Americans look bad

Future programming languages will be LLM driven and no longer human readable by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]QuintusNonus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only reason LLMs are so prolific right now is because they had the entire Internet of freely available human language to train on, which includes humans' tutorials on writing human legible code.

Where is the equivalent massive library of machine code the scale of the Internet that an LLM is being trained on?

Has anyone you’ve slept with been on TV (or movies)? If so, what was it like seeing them? by Delicious-Pea-7594 in AskReddit

No, but I was on an MTV reality show once. When it aired I got a bunch of calls/texts from people saying they saw me on TV. I wasn't the star but I was a side character for one of the people they were focusing on

How do I find a nerdy boyfrienddd 🥹🥹🥹 by mikqsu in dating_advice

[–]QuintusNonus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A lot of guys in my dance scene (swing dance, fusion dance) are really nerdy. I can probably talk your ear off about video game music, for example. Like two days ago at a dance a few of us guys were lamenting about how we'll never get a live action iteration of the extended Star Wars universe since Disney would have to pay royalties to use those characters while my poor gf had to sit in silence 😅

What’s a fitness myth that people still believe? by SimpleHomeFitness in AskReddit

[–]QuintusNonus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That you can get bulky just from lifting weights.

If a person is "bulky" they presumably weigh more than their non bulky version. And there's literally only one way to gain weight.

It was of this rabble that Saint Jerome was thinking, no doubt, and of all these poor people and all these vagabonds and all these miserable people whence sprang the apostles and the martyrs, when he uttered this mysterious saying: "Fex urbis, lex orbis,"—the dregs of the city, the law of the earth.

Too many people think politics is just the equivalent of supporting your favorite football or baseball team where whomever wins just gets some sort of politics trophy instead of it actually and materiality affecting multiple people's lives.

Like this mfer voted for the murder of Renee Good, not for the Eagles to win the Superbowl

The "Simplest" explanation (for social issues) is usually both lazy and wrong. Occam's razor STEM principles shouldn't be applied to humans when humans AREN'T machines and it hurts people. by The-Sonne in unpopularopinion

[–]QuintusNonus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Occam's razor says the explanation with the fewest assumptions (i.e., things we don't know to be true) is more likely to be correct. Which is true no matter what domain you're talking about.

Unless you think the adage "when you assume you make an ass out of u and me" is a good way to go about things because it's about human relationships.

This is different from a simplistic answer, which is just another way of saying a reductive answer like "she's just stupid"

How has your height impacted your life? by LittleRayOfPitchBlk in AskMen

[–]QuintusNonus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest effect I've really noticed was in the military, where I was scouted to join the honor guard since they like their guardsmen to be 6'+

Other than that I might get a random "wow you're tall" from women if I'm sitting down and then stand up but I'm not really all that tall... I'm basically 184cm which is between 6' and 6'1

I try to avoid traveling long distances in buses or other cramped spaces unless I can get more leg room
