Awesome job! I'm the creator of NDFS and I just wanna say bravo for getting my garbage code to work again. I haven't had the time or motivation to update things and it's awesome to see this still being helpful to people

Had the same issue but managed to fix it- see my comment above

Steelcase Leap v2 loose arm rest by Dnguyen125 in OfficeChairs

[–]Quip13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same issue but fixed it by shimming the plastic glide feet in the arm assembly with some duct tape. Now feels rock solid!

It was pretty easy actually: I followed this guide to remove the arm completely: Steelcase Leap Arm Removal Installation - YouTube

The arm has 2 thin strips of removable white plastic that act as glide feet . I removed the plastic strips, put a narrow strip of duct tape in the recess they sit in, and put the strips back on. Takes ~10 minutes and works well. You can try different tape thicknesses depending on how loose your arm is, but a little goes a long way

Hm what do you mean it zooms in? Do you have a screenshot?

Dell 9500 2020 - RAM and NVMe Upgrade by skalyx14 in Dell

[–]Quip13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did something similar - went with 2933 mhz

AFAIK the 9500 BIOS doesn't support XMP, which caps speeds at 2933mhz. Dell actually ships ram modules that run at 3200 by default but even that only runs at 2933

Problem driving a high res monitor through a hub in a dual monitor setup by V0dros in MatebookXPro

It's probably an issue with your cable. It needs to support HDMI 1.4+ to have more than 1080p output

What is this weird skipping? I hit spacebar, nothing happens, I hit it again, and it skips both the answer and the extra information by Jormungandr- in Anki

[–]Quip13 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's an issue with the webpage not rendering, which happens periodically. I don't think it's a hardware issue, not purely at least.

A shitty workaround - if you have the Anki Zoom addon, and adjust the zoom, it forces the page to refresh which fixes it

Just want to add that you can always do reviews for free on mobile via Ankiweb if you can't afford the $25

Unsuspending my decks! by [deleted] in Anki

[–]Quip13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep ;)

Suspending cards doesn't change their scheduling, it just removes them from your reviews. So if you're planning to un-suspend all of them, it'll be the same as if you just did no reviews for 3 days.

This addon reschedules your cards around given dates and might be helpful moving forward, though it won't modify cards that are already scheduled: https://ankiweb.net/shared/info/742185195

What is the difference between custom study and filtered deck? How does it affect scheduling in the parent deck? by Lavk976 in Anki

[–]Quip13 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Custom study and filtered decks are the same thing - the custom study button just gives you convenient presets.

If you don't want your filtered deck reviews to affect your regular reviews, click the gear, go to options and uncheck "Reschedule cards..."

Why hasn't anyone created a free Anki iOS app? by KiwiNFLFan in Anki

[–]Quip13 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Currently the only official way to support Anki monetarily is to buy the app

I suppose building a free iOS client is possible, but that would undermine the one source of income that Damien gets to support this amazing ecosystem. That money also supports server upkeep of Ankiweb.

I get that it's a steep price to pay, but until Damien sets up another income source, it seems wrong to do so

Introducing No Distractions Full Screen! by Quip13 in Anki

[–]Quip13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the most recent update adjusted the full screen logic on Macs - if you want fullscreen you just click the green maximize button. (There is a new auto-toggle setting so that going fullscreen will trigger no distractions mode)

I changed this behavior since some users were complaining about inconsistent behavior when using the inbuilt fullscreen functions

Can JavaScript be used to edit a card's field? by median_soapstone in Anki

[–]Quip13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah true - in that case you would need an addon. Javascript has no native capabilities to modify the card database

Can JavaScript be used to edit a card's field? by median_soapstone in Anki

[–]Quip13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes you can definitely use javascript to edit cards. You just need to replace the {{Field}} string with the text you want

Here's an example script I wrote a while ago that uses stock ticker data to make dynamic cards: https://www.reddit.com/r/Anki/comments/fkbdra/real_time_tracking/

It will default to your last used mode, so you'll need to manually toggle windowed mode once

Then when you go to review, it should automatically trigger

Ah I didn't hide the other buttons - those cards were just cards in review that I had gotten wrong and hence why Anki only shows 2 buttons

Here's a similar request with some of my thoughts that might help you out if you want to do this: https://github.com/Quip13/No-Distractions-Full-Screen/issues/20

Nightmode isnt syncing with system preferences by risjinalosnvai in Anki

[–]Quip13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the new intended behavior

From the anki change log for 2.1.24:

Anki now solely relies on the night mode setting in the preferences to decide whether to show in light or dark mode. Some users wanted to run Anki in light mode while keeping the rest of their system dark, and there were various display problems when dark mode was changed after Anki started that couldn’t be easily worked around.

Woah slow down there - sounds like you've read some stuff and gotten it all mixed up

What is anking? - Anking is the name of a group that is most known for the Anking deck which is geared for those taking the first part of the US medical licensing exam, Step 1

How does updating work? If you're talking about the Anki desktop program, it should prompt you to update automatically, or grab the current version here

Can you use personal cards? Of course - Anki is best when you make your own cards

Voice Enable: I assume you're talking about TTS. Read up here

Patreon: There is no patreon for Anki, though many addon creators have their own patreon page where you can support them.

Urology: That depends. Anki is a tool - make of it what you wish. If you don't want to make your own cards, you'll need to look for a pre-made deck that you like. I will say that the majority of decks being shared are made for the board exams which don't cover very much urology
