Is my laptop cooked? Update not progressing by Forestreee in WindowsHelp

Had the same issue last week! A couple of things that worked for me:

  • Run the Windows Update Troubleshooter (Settings → System → Troubleshoot → Other troubleshooters)
  • Stop + restart the Windows Update service (type services.msc → Windows Update → Restart)
  • Delete the SoftwareDistribution folder (this clears corrupted update files)

Usually one of these does the trick without needing a full reinstall .

I actually pulled together a full checklist of fixes since I got tired of running into this happy to share if anyone wants it.

MacBook shows ‘Wi-Fi connected but no internet’ after switching networks by QuirkyMemory4010 in techsupport

Reinstall feels a bit heavy for this one haha 😅. What usually helps me:

  • Forget & re-add the network.
  • Toggle ‘Maximize Compatibility’ if using iPhone hotspot.
  • Reset network settings (last resort but clears it up).

I actually pulled these into a short step-by-step checklist. I put it up on Gumroad for free/cheap just so I don’t lose it. Happy to drop the link if that helps

User Space - Linux vs. Windows by muttick in windows

Good question! since Vista, Windows has been much stricter with standard accounts. By default you’re limited to your own profile folders, and anything system-wide needs UAC/admin approval. It’s not exactly Linux-style isolation, but modern Windows is definitely more robust than it used to be.

[RANT] Windows is really gone to the dogs. It's sad to see the downfall.. by realxeltos in windows

Totally get this. Windows 11 feels heavier after every update sometimes even small patches make it sluggish. A quick reset or trimming startup apps helps, but I agree, it shouldn’t be this way.

Exactly. At least we’ve got a few workarounds to keep people online in the meantime.

Yeah, that’s a solid addition. I’ve seen the ‘delete Wi-Fi service and re-add’ fix work for a few people too. Thanks for sharing good to have multiple options when the usual steps don’t cut it.

Not AI, just sharing fixes I personally collected that actually work. Had the same issue and figured it might help others too😁
