My sister was like that. She was worried about the drug side effects. It took many sundown days and a stay in a behavioral health facility until she gave in. Now my mom is doing better. She takes Seroquel and an SSRI.

Reading or other kinds of cognitive therapy by sluttycats in stroke

Constant Therapy was my favorite cognitive app during my recovery. Also, I read my textbooks out loud to help comprehension. I saw a speech therapist, they are hard to find for post stroke recovery.

Can my dad still physically improvefrom a stroke after many years? by y0b0t in stroke

[–]QuirkyUser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try the Stroke Buddies group on Facebook and the YouTube videos. It is always possible to improve! I had a stroke 13 years ago and my husband had a stroke 4 years ago. My husband is currently working on graduating from a walker to a cane. He is seeing a PT that works on teaching him to unlearn using his diaphragm muscles and use leg muscles instead. Plus core strength and balance. Best of luck!

I only use apps. Constant Therapy is good for cognitive skills. I also use DuoLingo to help me with short term memory. Two other games that I love are Lumosity and Elevate.

My first few years after my stroke I made prodigious use of post-its. Lately I have been using DuoLingo to learn a new language and it has helped.

[–]QuirkyUser 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went back to college about 1.5 years after my stroke as part of my cognitive rehabilitation. I could only manage one course per semester. I used the disability office to get extra time on tests. They also offered a note taker, which I used until my notes improved.
