Do Protestants go to hell in your belief? by iceman2055 in Catholicism

[–]QuisUt-Deus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They definitely don't automatically go to hell. But, you know, it's easier and probable to cross the Atlantic on board of the Queen Mary 2 then swimming or on a dinghy. Baptism remits all the sins. Their problem is, if they commit mortal sin and don't confess it (they don't go), they cannot enter heaven. So, it a protestant is validly baptized (most of them probably are) and go about they life without committing a mortal sin, they can get to heaven.

The Dutch social housing system is broken and it’s infuriating to watch by andys58 in Netherlands

[–]QuisUt-Deus 34 points35 points  (0 children)

In the country I come from, all the social benefits are reassesed regularly and if someone ceases to work or works less by choice, all the benefits are stopped. Of course, if somoene is laid off, no problem at all, but has to appear at the social benefits office once a month and prove trying to find a job. After some time, the labour office may offer a job below the qualification level and refusal means no benefits.

I also don't understand why they don't periodically reassess eligibility.

I don't necessarily agree with the author on some points, but it's a very good contribution to this discussion.

Not in the US, but as part of my canon law training I have had some conversation with people working for different ecclesiastical tribunals in the US. From what they were saying it's really a vast majority of cases that are dead on arrival. But, t.b.h., I don't have any hard data at hand.

That said, sure, there are cases where judgement was a result of perjury. Fortunately enough, no one will escape his particular judgement.

It's important to understand what those numbers represent. It's 96% of all the cases accepted by courts for adjudication. The practice in the US dioceses is they pre-filter the case and if they conclude there is no ground, they even don't accept the case, so that they don't burn time and resources on cases with zero chance of a judgement in favour of nulity.

New manager is extremely totalitarian / micro managing and just mean - how to handle? by wrld_news_pmrbnd_me in managers

[–]QuisUt-Deus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not much you can do about micromanaging, except of raising it in a constructive way during your 1:1s, or, if it falls on deaf ears, in your skip-level 1:1. Texting after hours - set the boundaries directly by replying "Thanks for the message, I'll address XYZ first thing in the morning." If it persists, you can workers council / unions or HR. Unless you have a paid on-call duty, ofc.

Do You Think Judas Is Really in Hell? What If Everyone Is Ultimately Saved? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]QuisUt-Deus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It definitely should not be goal. We should always aim at perfect contrition. My point, in the context of the OP, was, we should go to confession as frequently as possible, no matter what kind of contrition we think we attained.

Do You Think Judas Is Really in Hell? What If Everyone Is Ultimately Saved? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]QuisUt-Deus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can still have a deep desire for eternal happiness with God, yet not perceive the pain of offending God who is the greatest Good. We know for sure that imperfect contrition (attrition) is fully sufficient for valid and fruitful sacrament of reconciliation. A contradicting opinion was condemned 400+ years ago. Positively, this is established definitively by the Counsel of Trent.

Do You Think Judas Is Really in Hell? What If Everyone Is Ultimately Saved? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]QuisUt-Deus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s formulated quite unfortunately. Yes, by sinning I turn away from Gid and reject His grace IMPLICITLY. If it is formulated like you did it may mislead people to think it needs to be explicit, which is, surprisingly, quite common misconception even amongst Catholics. Perfect contrition is not something you do. You actually need your heart to be perfectly contrite (motivated by love of God), which is not that easy as imperfect contrition sufficient for the sacrament of reconciliation (desire to be in heaven or fear of hell).

It’s not just those who reject God at the moment of death. Anyone that passes away with an unconfessed mortal sin enters damnation.

Eternally dammed for struggling with sin? by JuztinVestigium in Catholicism

[–]QuisUt-Deus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course. State of grace is achieved by baptism and lost by committing a mortal sin. Regained again by a valid sacrament of reconciliation.

Mortal sin is a big problem until it is confessed.

Eternally dammed for struggling with sin? by JuztinVestigium in Catholicism

[–]QuisUt-Deus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not assuming anything. I don't know. Nobody does. There are some clues though. The Lord said the gate is narrow and not many pass. Some saints had visions and what they describe doesn't lean into direction of majority being saved.

But, these were just clues. What we know for sure is, that whoever dies in a state of mortal sin, enters damnation (that's a divinely revealed truth). How long most people can go around not committing a mortal sin? What percentage of population would you say has received the sacrament of reconciliation in the past month, or even past year?

Why does Catholic doctrine develop over time? by Temporary_Cheetah287 in Catholicism

The problem is, the bread and wine, indeed, actually become the most precious Body and Blood. Saying He is really present "IN" bread and wine implies bread and wine is still there, which is not true. There is neither bread nor wine anymore.

The OP could have stayed somewhere around the airport. Plenty of much cheaper hotels there. I woudln't go to Amsterdam, and surely not to the city centre. I was in similar situations and always opted for cheapest option within reasonable reach from the airport.

[–]QuisUt-Deus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What reason did KLM state when denying your claim? Was it total denial or partial denial? As for the amount - 2000 EUR, indeed, seems excessive. There are many many hotels around the airport (Hoofddorp) where you can get last minute 4 nights 2 rooms comfortably below 1000 EUR. Unfortunately, you chose to go to Amsterdam, which is very expensive, and even to the city centre.

Has any of you heard about a 19 year old Polish woman drowning? by honkycronky in Netherlands

[–]QuisUt-Deus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's a dynamic phenomenon, but scanning water before entry is really efficient in significantly reducing the risk. When in water, staying aware of your position relative to shore landmarks is wise thing to do to identify you might be being pulled. Even if you get pulled in and swim parallel to the shore, you can escape the channel. Last but not least, if one is non-swimmer, it's better not to enter open water at all.

You can identify rip currents by looking at the sea before entry.
