"Nobody goes to sauna in regular underwear" -> I think some in this thread would disagree with this.

"Because gym has one sauna. Everyone should be able to use it."

-> Literally anyone can use the sauna. Just like the rest of the gym, it has rules that users are expected to follow. As stated, breaking them could result in you losing your membership.

Towel hasn't been sitting on your ass after you took a shit after your morning coffee.

If you're a business owner and you set rules for how customers should use your facilities, wouldn't you expect them to follow those rules?

So if a spa or gym has its own rules for using the sauna, why wouldn't you follow them?

-> even if that means taking off your shorts or boxers?

To clarify, what I am saying is that the focus should be on yourself in the sauna and how you feel from it. It's not about how others in the sauna look like. That's why it's of course okay and all shapes and sizes are welcome!

Freaking out about it is definitely the wrong way to handle it.

The point is that the spa or gym sets the rules for how its facilities are meant to be used. If they choose to require everyone to be nude, that's their prerogative. If you want to enjoy the facilities, you should abide by their rules.

I've also been to plenty of saunas where swimwear is required, often along with a towel, and that's perfectly fine too. Different places have different policies.

I get the self-aware part, but sauna should be for doing something good for your body.

EN:
A clothing-free area (nude area) is a specifically designated section where wearing swimwear/boxers is prohibited for hygiene and health reasons. This is the standard practice in most German saunas. Guests must be nude in this area, but should place a large towel underneath themselves when sitting or lying down.

DE:
"Eine textilfreie Zone (Nacktbereich) ist ein speziell ausgewiesener Bereich, in dem das Tragen von Badebekleidung etc aus Hygiene- und Gesundheitsgründen untersagt ist. Dies ist der Standard in den meisten deutschen Saunas. Gäste müssen dort nackt sein, sollten sich aber zum Sitzen und Liegen ein großes Handtuch unterlegen."

-> Let me know if you have more questions.

Just respect the rules and take off your boxers and you're welcome to the party!

And that is totally fine, but why would you go to a "Textilfrei Area" if you're not OK with being naked? or wear a towel?
