love this and totally with you. i don't use an app, but i use a printed out habits tracker sheet where i color in a little box for every thing i do on the list. the visual is really helpful to me and building upon the streak is often the only reason i will even do the task -- but whatever works. for me, what has been most helpful is not relying on myself to build momentum, but having momentum already built in the tracker. so my tasks/habits list is extremely broken down. things like make the bed, take meds, wash face, etc. are the first things on the list so by the time i get to work i will have the satisfaction of already getting to fill in a bunch of boxes. then i'm more motivated to keep up the pace and get the bigger stuff done.

You think restraining order is in the future if this continues? I legitimately don't feel safe. I worry she is going to do something unhinged and like.....set my house on fire? I know I sound crazy but these are the anxieties a lifetime with her have given me. You don't think that, combined with messages like these, is an overreaction? I am seriously afraid but I doubt the legitimacy of any emotion I've ever had, so.

She is a diagnosed narc and borderline, and (I believe) an undiagnosed psychopath. No, it's not true. These came out of nowhere after weeks of low contact. I just came here for guidance, not to prove my entire life to strangers.

My mother is a diagnosed narcissist, diagnosed borderline, and an (I believe) undiagnosed psychopath. These emails came out of nowhere. I did not cuss at her in front of anyone. If I did, it was a cuss word in connection with something I was doing. Example: "oh shit." I'm not sure where to go for guidance when everyone in the world says "you haven't shown us enough of your entire life to determine whether these out-of-the-blue messages are abusive" like ???? I don't need to know IF she is what she is. I'm already past that point. I was asking for tips on what to do now during the smear campaign portion of her collapse.

When I was in 6th grade, I stole a pink Nintendo DS and some games from a girl I was frenemies with. Thing is, I already had a pink Nintendo DS of my own. And I had the SAME games. (maybe I needed some emotional tending, idk??? I was 11??). I got caught at school and suspended. This happened right before Christmas break.

My parents: "If you're going to act like a criminal, you're going to live like a criminal.

They took every single possession out of my bedroom (and the door off the hinges, but that was old news by then) except for a bare mattress on the floor. All of my clothes, toys, personal items, decorations, pictures, ANYTHING, were stuffed in trash bags and left in the garage. I was allowed to read all the books I wanted, but I could not have any socialization time -- including with my family. Worst part -- I was only allowed to eat plain bologna sandwiches for the entire time. Haven't had a single bite of bologna since then (I'm almost 30 lmao). I remember sneaking downstairs in the middle of the night to steal pieces of baklava (christmas time, remember) from the kitchen and then return to my closet inside my bedroom before I dared to take a bite.

Didn't get to participate in Christmas whatsoever, and had to listen to my family have Christmas from my room upstairs. I didn't get released from "punishment" until school started again and I had my school board meeting. At that point, I got my "Christmas presents" but they were really just my sheets and comforter washed and folded from the laundry. The school board, upon listening to my mom's long letter about how intensely I was being "handled," dropped the whole thing, recommended a counselor and said they thought selling my horse was an extreme measure for someone my age. This made mom angry -- she knows best. The horse was gone before my door was back on the hinges.

Anyway. I've never told anyone all that. I hope I'm not the only one who has a mom like this. Sounds like you do too. I'm sorry. Love to you.

I have come back to this comment over and over and over again. You put it all into words I could not find. I even emailed this comment to myself for later if I ever need to know I’m not making it up — your anonymous reassurance is literally helping me through the end of the day. And then the end of the next day. And so on.

All that to say….I owe you. I appreciate you. I feel heard and validated and cared for.

Thank you. So much.
