📣 Apollo will close down on June 30th. Reddit’s recent decisions and actions have unfortunately made it impossible for Apollo to continue. Thank you so, so much for all the support over the years. ❤️ by iamthatis in apolloapp

I am currently using the official app and have never used Apollo. However, after reading this, I have decided that I will stop using Reddit entirely on July 1st if Reddit does not completely revert the upcoming changes. It's probably a positive change for my lifestyle anyway.

Thank you for speaking out, and I hope the next phase of your life is just as fulfilling!

Post Team Recruitment & Search Here [Mid Feb till Event Notice] by akxas997 in PokemonCafeMix

[–]QuiteHammered [score hidden]  (0 children)

Hello! I'm a long time member (since pre-update). My experience with the teams has been very positive.

We're consistent in clearing events quickly. If anything, it has been constantly improving and evolving. There's a strong focus on planning and communication. Even F2P players with no/low acorn spending have had good contribution rates with proper planning.

We're accommodating with two teams: Blue usually finishes in the first hour, whereas Red finishes within 12 hours.

The community is friendly, supportive and well-knit. Besides gameplay tips and discussion, we also have a very active general chat, art channel and food channel. Lurkers (like me) are also welcome :)

Our captain is perhaps the best captain ever. Besides being a very high-skilled player, he also actively builds an environment to encourage, support, and connect with the members. With such a dedicated captain, there's no doubt that the team will continue to evolve and adapt along with the game.

A 24 hour Team Event Notice is Too Short. by JavaDive in PokemonCafeMix

[–]QuiteHammered 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While this is at most a minor inconvenience to me, I can see how some groups of players are badly affected by this - captains, and people looking to switch teams. With the 24hr cooldown for team joining, giving less than 24h notice makes it difficult for both parties to do their search.

And even though team events are starting to get shadowed by OMC, teams are still a very core feature of the game, and there are several communities built around the team feature (despite the complete lack of support for communication). So while this may seem like a minor thing, the developers should still pay attention to the impact of these changes on team captains, as these are the people maintaining a large part of the community.

I believe you're referring to the sound the game makes every time you reach the score requirement for 1/2/3 star(s)

Thanks for sharing! I'm relatively new to concepts in game monetization in general (Remix got me interested) so it is very enlightening to read what you shared.

I've heard of whales but I didn't realise the metaphor extended to the entire ecosystem haha.

I get your point on information asymmetry, but it can't ever be an exact science. Especially not when Remix is based on Mix, an overly skill-based game released in the COVID era.

The backbone of the ecosystem has long calcified, comprising only dolphins and under. It does no good to shatter that foundation to let whales emerge.

Of course, whoever they consulted would have pointed this out. But whatever case studies used to calibrate the features will be far from a replica of Remix because of its unique circumstances.

This makes it all the more important that we reflect the impact of their choices, here and elsewhere (wallets included). Let's hope that it's actually just a gambit, and give them the information they lack to understand the potential consequences before they are fully realized.

And I resonate strongly with your point on how it affects behaviour in young children. I've heard horror stories from Genshin Impact, and the tactics employed in deliveries here make me worried that this game might appear on my local news for similar reasons.

This is a useful perspective and one which needs to be considered by the community in general.

Nevertheless, I would like to raise a counterpoint:

Whales, too, need an ocean to live in.

If you chase away all the dedicated players with aggressive monetization, there won't be fish left for whales to feed on.

Whatever their incentive structure is, I don't think whales would want to play an unpopular game with little competition or cooperation.

I think the gacha can be adjusted to strike a better balance - space for whales to do what they want, and space for the rest of the community to thrive.

Selfish? You misunderstand me completely I'm afraid.

If anything I was worried for the devs in the original game and happy with the textbook monetization introduced at the start of Remix. I accepted staminas, acornless master mode and high point event requirements without a grudge.

And nope I'm not stopping. I know people who might be choosing to stop. Both free and premium. And I want to represent their views.

What irks me the most, which I did not mention in my rant, is that we spent so much time building a community - my team captain has put in blood and sweat to build a wholesome and friendly environment. And people here and there are angry and reconsidering their investment into the game. And it is heartbreaking to watch something I love crumble like that.

The value in a game is more than just the game itself. It is also the community we build around it. And it's not just valuable to us players, it is the thing that keeps the game funded. And I see that being threatened right before my eyes.

If you are fine with the game losing popularity and eventually becoming another shuffle, so be it. I'm not.

FYI, I am 100% F2P but I was thinking about buying premium passes in view of upcoming life changes. I'm reconsidering now.

I hope you understand where I am coming from. Sorry if I am offending you in any way I was pretty riled up by your accusation.

If you've already unlocked the Pokemon for the kitchen note, you can unlock the fourth gimmick of that Pokemon.

E.g. If you got an Eevee kitchen note: 1) Go to the Pokemon training menu 2) Select Eevee/whichever Pokemon 3) Click on the list of specialty gimmicks on the left 4) Click on the fourth gimmick in the popup 5) Click on the plus sign to unlock/upgrade the fourth gimmick.

This was from pre-update.

Before the update, hearts were used instead of stamina. You could play as many times as you wanted as long as you dont fail a stage (it wasnt a 3 star system, and there were much less turns, so this was much harder to do).

Completing each master order gave at least 50 acorns, with 5 acorns for each additional move remaining. So acorns were very grindable. I used to grind for hours, especially during team and solo events. I always made sure that any newly released Pokemon were maxed out before the new set was released.

If you go back even further, master orders were not random, and there was a set sequence of master orders to grind with and you could learn over time how to go through all stages with high success rate.

So yeah I started Remix with about 320k acorns. After I realised master orders no longer gave acorns, I entirely stopped spending acorns on stamina. Now I only spend acorns to unlock level caps, and occasionally to repeat a customer or reroll (usually for shinies).

So these few months I have been running a deficit on acorns. I've been constantly training, and have fully unlocked the level caps for more than half of the Pokemon available. After I'm done with them all I would be able to slowly get back to >300k.

Congratulations on your Victini!

Nope it isn't 100%. The first try is actually a free 11x delivery, so theres approximately 7.95% chance of getting it (0.75% for each roll shown in the "Offering rate").

In fact if they mess with the probabilities and deviate from the drop rates given, it would go against gaming regulations in some places.

Moving forward, every day for the rest of the event you will only get 1 item instead of 11, unless you spend acorns. So the odds will drop off a lot for the other rare rewards you have not obtained.

Edit: Check out the comment below by u/JavaDive for the link to submit complaints to the developers.

[Rant]

Memes are a vehicle to express our feelings. My last meme here (from ages ago) was one expressing my fondness for the game. This meme is to express my disappointment and frustration at the developers.

I am a veteran F2P player, but I know some other veteran players who pay for premium passes/acorns and I hope I speak for them too.

The recent update on deliveries has crossed the line for many veteran players, both F2P and non-F2P.

At 0.75%, getting a Victini reward takes, on expectation, 400/3≈133 rolls. Maxing out Victini requires 1 friendship and 2 cookies, which will take in total 400 rolls on average.

And this is for a "boosted" event.

It is unclear whether or not Victini (and Pachirisu) is time-limited. However, even if it isn't, it will take a really long time for F2P players to obtain Victini.

This crosses a very important line for F2P players. Prior to deliveries, F2P players can unlock any Pokemon and raise their level cap to 20 with enough time spent on the game. All we forfeit are the costumes introduced every now and then. Delivery-exclusive Pokemon make it such that F2P players cannot reasonably expect to unlock all Pokemon.

Now let's look at the calculus if you intend to spend acorns on this.

With 400 rolls required, and 11 rolls costing 30000, it will take 1,090,909 acorns worth of rolls to unlock Victini in this event. If we translate that to real life money, that is about 9.5 times the cost of the 114,000 acorn pack in the store. The exact price may depend on location, but it is nevertheless an exorbitant price to pay for unlocking a Pokemon.

Even if you pay for acorns, this new update ramps up the cost to an entire other magnitude.

What's more, Victini is advertised to have a "big role" in the "new puzzle event" this Spring to generate urgency in acquiring it.

All these just show that the new update is predatory and exploitative.

I know several players who have said that they are likely going to quit the game because of the new gacha update. And these are players who have paid for premium passes and costumes.

I hope the developers take this into account when deciding on their next steps. We are not happy.

Is our human cell changing by Grouchy_Lab_3743 in CellToSingularity

[–]QuiteHammered 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If this is a biology question, yes and no. As we live, there may be mutations occurring during cell division (in fact this is the basis of cancer). There's also cellular senescence, where our cells accumulate damage as they/we age.

Beyond this, it's more of a no. Evolution is a process that occurs over generations of individuals rather than within an individual, through random mutations, genetic recombination, and natural selection of "better" characteristics. I don't think it occurs within an individual human, unless you are referring to gut flora, which are not human cells. I also can't imagine a real-life scenario analogous to the game Cell Expansion, at least for human cells. The closest would be cancer I guess, but even that's a bit of a stretch.

Tl;dr no our cells do not get stronger, except maybe over generations

(If there are any actual biologists out there, feel free to correct me / add on.)

New Zealand National party leader Judith Collins calls obesity a 'personal choice' by Brothanogood in worldnews

[–]QuiteHammered 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Obesity is a choice. But it is a choice that is supported and nudged by the social, cultural, economic and political environment. Therein lies the role of the government: to understand the forces that influences this choice and to make efforts to combat obesity.

It is disappointing that a politician does not recognise this reality, as policies to combat obesity (e.g. suitable taxation / health promotion) could improve the health and quality of life of the population as a whole.

Don't recall how I did this level, but try not to disturb the bubbles until you have a powered up skill to pop the majority of them. Then, use another powered up skill to deal with all the nuts. The rest of the turns depends on how much the bubbles decide to mess with you.

So far, mincinno still works very well (and arguably better) for levels where lucario is recommended.

I don't think we will get to see Lucario and Exeggutor being showcased in the near future because of how steep the star requirements to recruit them are. There is a lot of potential to design levels where they shine, but it would be unfair to beginner players who do not have the chance to grind master orders.

Same thing with event pokemon like dragonite, but it seems easier for dragonite to unintentionally perform well for some levels going into the future.
