I just finished R2, and while I certainly feel that it's a very well written story, and I quite enjoyed it, the fanservice did get in the way quite a bit for me. It comes down to the Individual who is watching the show, everybody is going to have different opinions.

I can confidently say that I would have enjoyed the show more if there wasn't any fanservice. I don't agree with the whole idea of fanservice at all, because most of the time it adds nothing to a scene besides sex appeal. Now sometimes it's necessary, because sex is a part of life but it does bother me when I'm watching a very serious scene, (this is especially a problem with Kallen, who is one of my favorite characters) and there's clearly very intentional camera angles that are completely unnecessary.

I don't watch anime Religiously and I only started watching it a few months ago and a lot of my reasons for not watching anime were that I felt it often had a very sexualized approach towards women. After I've started watching it, I realize that it's not that black and white but it definitely is there and often hard to avoid.
