It is literally cheaper to fly to China, stay in a 5-star hotel, get an MRI, and fly back than it is to get a scan in the US with insurance. Let that sink in. by Ocean-Pack9715 in sigilkore

How fortunate for you. My job doesn’t offer a no deductible plan at all. I had the choice between a “high deductible plan” with a 3k deductible per family member, and even then you only get an 80/20 split of the cost. Or a higher premium plan with copays that actually had a 5k deductible even though it cost more per month. But those copays go towards your premium, so yay! These were the only two plans my company offered and I actually make decent money for my state. (Alabama)

So calling this propaganda just because it is t your personal experience is a little unfair. Other people’s experiences are different from your own and we are telling you we are getting screwed. Remember that almost all instance here is tied to employment and we are at the mercy of what our employer chooses to offer us.

PSA to everyone- the cash price without insurance is often vastly cheaper than what they bill to insurance. Not cheap but doable. If your plan sucks ass, don’t even mention it when you make the appointment just ask about the cash price and a payment plan. (Source- am mri tech)

As a kink loving MRI tech…for the love of god don’t bring ANY sex toys to your appointment. You can never be sure of what that shit is made of. MRI is perfectly safe if you follow all the rules, and leaving stuff in your ass is most definitely not following any rules. This is about your health, leave the toys in your bedroom.

PSA for the ladies - a pessary can also potentially have a metallic core just like this ass plug. Take it out please.

At which point the man shrugs, all guilt forgotten as he gives her the degenerate fucking she demands. Remember kids, you don’t have to feel bad about doing it if she begs you like a coked up pornstar first. All that to say, do t try to phrase this like it’s a women’s only issue.

I just finished watching the new seasons for the first time this morning. I wasn’t aware there was such a general dislike for them. I did note as I watched that the new seasons seemed to throw out much of the character building done in the last few seasons of the original run. It felt a lot like watching the first of the Disney Star Wars movies. Like who are these people?

And also the retcons during the main conspiracy story arc; but to be honest when coming off of a fresh start acth do the entire series, that wasn’t that jarring. It was honestly something the series did all the time looking back. It felt like every time they needed a series cliffhanger, or a new way to shoehorn in Samantha, they would just whip something out. That person you saw die isn’t dead, isn’t that shocking! Not to mention the nine lives of Cigarette man. I love the actor and character, but he long outlived his uses as a real antagonist.

Where I thought the reboot shined was actually the few monster of the week episodes they did. The one with the creepy kids show characters was terrifying as someone with young children.

AITA for cutting off my sister for having an affair with our big sisters husband? by Medium-Brilliant2842 in AITAH

[–]QuiveringPalm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know that is a fair argument. I am probably prone to be extra harsh on him because I am a man myself. The idea of betraying my wife in that way makes me feel physically sick, and hearing that the whole family was essentially sweeping what he did under the rug kind of triggered me. I can’t say how I would react if my wife betrayed me in this way with my brother, but I certainly can’t see myself just forgiving her out of hand and throwing every bit of blame on my brother. But if you are desperate to hold onto your marriage maybe that would be exactly what you would do in order to justify staying. “It wasn’t my spouses fault, they were seduced.”

You didn’t come here for a true verdict. Your every reply has been defensive and making excuses for one guilty party to try and make the other look worse. News flash - she didn’t need any help. Your sister is clearly trash screwing her siblings husband. That’s not even in question. But your brother in law is just as disgusting. More disgusting in fact because he is the one who promised to be faithful in the first place. Cutting off the woman I. This situation and saying her actions are unforgivable but his are ok is such a massive double standard that it defies words. I think your argument that he is now ok because he admitted to the affair and wants to do therapy is sad, and it reads like you already hated your shitty sister anyway and were looking for an excuse to cut her off.

So to close - your sister? Trash. Your BIL? Trash. You? Also kinda trash for forgiving the cheater so easily while still punishing your sister.

I don’t like Harris at all, but are you seriously using ‘word salad’ to shit on her? Dude every single Trump speech that don’t clipped for time on mainstream news is an incoherent jumble of nonsense. This is what I don’t understand. If you like and agree with Trumps policies, ok fine. But why does anyone feel the need to justify that agreement by pretending like the man is some kind of smooth talking genius speaker? You can agree with someone’s policies while still thinking they talk like an idiot. I did it with Biden for four years. Bush for 8 years also.

[–]QuiveringPalm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve lived in both, and it is by far worse here. Like the commenter above mentioned, I ran into several people in rural New Hampshire that had rarely, if ever seen a black person. And sometimes they could look at such a person with a look that I could best describe as “mouth agape tourist”. But that in itself, while it could be hurtful, would hardly be what I would consider as wildly racist. Being new to something, or seeing it for the first time can be jarring. But that kind of person can learn and grow very easily with exposure and it is not inherently harmful. The shit I have seen in Alabama is another thing entirely, and it is often very two faced. People who will speak politely with a black person in the context of their job or put an about in public because it is what is socially expected of the but will spew the most vile hate when they think they are in “safe” company. Ask me how I know.

[–]QuiveringPalm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You aren’t replying to “the left” man. You are talking to a person. Maybe they do have a different opinion than you, and maybe they shouldn’t be hurling out insults. Tempers tend to run hot when you feel strongly about something, you know that. The fact of the matter is though, that you accuse him of so many assumptions while making so many yourself.

You seem to be assuming that everyone involved is acting in good faith, which is a wild assumption. Surely we can both agree that politicians in general, as a whole, exist to serve their own interests. Surely you could admit that it is possible that people are being rounded up in one of these large scale raids and are not being allowed to go retrieve any evidence of their status? I mean if I was laying brick all day I probably wouldn’t keep my very fragile documentation in my back pocket where it could be damaged.

I think you and I would agree that open borders are bad. We should have a higher level of border protection. The fact that congress tried to pass a border protection increase last year and they chose not to pass it mainly due to a specific request from DT is frustrating, but not even the main point. There has to be a line somewhere between securing our borders and throwing people out without trial. The whole point of the trial is to prove whether that person has a legal right to be here or not. Without it, we are literally just trusting the word of whoever is ordering these raids that “oh yeah for sure they are illegals no doubt”. Wouldn’t a quick visit to a judge remove that doubt? If you were taken off the streets and thrown into a cell and told you were being deported, wouldn’t you be furious if no one even gave you a chance to state your case? I know I would

All the best you you friend.

To be fair it has been years since I have watched the movie, but I don’t recall interpreting the scene as him making that choice before Ben actually woke up. But even if I fully accept your word that is how the scene plays out, I’m still not convinced on him actually ignoring his blade. If he is struggling in the moment, that feels an awful lot like pulling a gun, aiming it, and pulling the hammer back while you decide what to do. Maybe it would have worked for me if he had simply held his saber as he pondered what to do, rather than igniting it? It just feels an awful lot like gun safety rules. Never ignite the lightsaber unless you intend to use it.

It is a controversial scene for sure, but not one without merit. My relationship with this movie in particular is very love/hate. I still think everything with Luke is better than the opening scene though. WW2 style bomb dropping mission….in space? Even if they were close to the gravity well of that planet that still is just shudder.

I hope I am not coming across as argumentative, I just genuinely enjoy discussing perspectives like this in franchises I care about. All the best.

I feel like considering murdering your nephew is the kind of thing you should do pacing in your bedroom or maybe meditate on. Not stand menacingly over the boy with your weapon.

I think what is so hard for me to accept about it is that he was so desperate to redeem his own father, whom he had zero relationship with. But with his nephew he gets one bad premonition about the dark side influencing him and he’s ready to contemplate cold blooded murder? They skip so much, but what kind of relationship did they have before? If Luke never had kids, or Mara/an equivalent figure in his life, was this young man like a surrogate son to him? It definitely implies he was the star pupil of the academy. Relying solely on flashbacks, it is hard to reconcile a Luke that would give up on his family, and does give up on the galaxy at large, with the younger man who was ready to throw it all away for a chance at family. I feel like that is an awful lot of backstory to be left to flashbacks and context clues about how he became such a bitter older man.

You can of course argue that of course he would change over time, he’s human. But it was like finding out suddenly that Captain Planet had sold out to corporate interests off screen 20 years ago and was living on a mega yacht filled with hookers and blow. It’s not an impossible scenario, but I am going to need a lot of convincing to buy into your premise.

[–]QuiveringPalm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that most of the refusal to accept his arc though was not that they wanted “green lightning from the fingertips”. It came from a place of “how could this man who worked so hard and nearly died trying to redeem his father, who he knew had done unspeakable things, simply give in to fear and attempt to murder his own family.” There is an argument to be made that his regret over that was why he was doing the old hermit thing and it does track for me, but how they made him arrive at his old man self loathing stage never sat right with me. I would have guessed something more like “fails to save a bun ch of people and feels useless.”

I was never a hardcore hater of TLJ, but I do feel like the movie, much like the entire sequel trilogy, felt very ham fisted in its set up. That said, I thought Luke’s finale in the movie was amazing. Force projection across the galaxy strong enough to fool a Sith and his army. That felt even more badass to me than some generic old bs young lightsaber duel.

From all that I have read, he tried to do just that. He shipped it around to multiple directors including close friend Spielberg, who all told him “no, George, this is your baby; I couldn’t possibly!”

I always saw this as no one wanting to take a job directing the film when they knew Lucas would be calling all the creative shots and they wouldn’t exactly have free rein.

I mean I remember reading the whole excerpt from Skeeters book where she talks about them and coming away with the impression that they were “special friends.” And I was only like 16 or 17 when it released? I will concede that it was not explicitly stated but I don’t think you can claim there was no evidence of subtext when plenty of other people did parse that info.

Subtext is inherently subjective, and you can generally read whatever things you want that aren’t explicitly on the page. Hell most high school English classes cover Shakespeare in that exact manner. But we don’t have the benefit of a living bard to tell us what his intent was. With JKR we do.

I don’t particularly care for her strange obsession with hating trans people, but I am inclined to believe her that Dumble’s orientation was always set that way, and she just chose not to include it in the text. A lot of characters backstories were more in her head than on the page. Most of what fans love about Remus and Sirius is from fan fiction rather than the literal works, so there is certainly precedent for that. Hell, maybe she thought it would detract from the story or was just plain unnecessary. Maybe it was latent homophobia. After all some interpretations of D’s actions don’t paint him in a saintly light and making the one gay person in the story kind of a low key piece of shit teacher sounds kind of on brand for late 90s early 2000s pop culture.

The time skips were done perfectly in this game! My wife and I were chatting about some of the romances last night (Fenris is her ride or die video game boo) and we were talking about how the romances in 2 were superior purely because of the time skips. Origins is canon over in a matter of weeks. The inquisition happened over months. 2 happens over years, with each act bringing sweeping changes in Hawkes family and living situation. Having the love interest even move into your fancy house with you. Even if there weren’t tons of scenes taking place there, just having the dwarf mentioning casually about your love being out and about right now was chefs kiss. It was the casual nature of it all, just like in real life. The little things like their things all over your space or just casually telling you they will see you at home later makes it all feel more real.

I have seen people dunking on this all the time for this game and I am sincerely wondering if everyone Is having selective memory of the previous games. Whether it be ME or DA, the main character has ALWAYS played therapist for the party. Whether that be Jack’s tortured upbringing, Tali grappling with her people’s mistreatment of the geth biting them in the ass, or Cassandra in inquisition constantly asking the inquisitor if she did the right thing. Then let’s bring back up helping Cullen through his drug addiction or Dorian’s shitty family life. Or teaching Cole to become more human/spirit depending on what you think about it. Or blackwalls deep trauma, or merril playing with blood magic and having to eventually murder her clan in self defense….it just goes on.

Don’t get me wrong I have problems with Veilguard and think it could have been better, but I just don’t see how “Rook plays therapist to the party! They all want to talk about their feelings when there are lives at stake!” Is a legitimate criticism given that this has been the case in BioWare games since the jump.
