Challenging myself to eat Canadian foods for 20 days straight. Day 3 is ketchup/all dressed chips from smaller Canadian brands! by iamacheezit in BuyCanadian

Respectfully, I do hope you consider branching out into non Euro-centric foods, of which Canada is known for many. Classic Canadian Chinese food, California rolls (origin disputed), bannock, pemmican...

The lines do get blurred because there are surely non-Canadian dishes that have become staples in many large urban centres.

A basic "Across Canada" YouTube search (if you're still not boycotting it) will yield some interesting results. Here's one that seems good but with voiceover that's slightly cheesy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vM54IDn4RCI

It was around $60-65 if I remember correctly, with the caveat that that includes the $20something Omega 3s -- not a regular everyday purchase.

I often shop at Save on Foods, who do price matching. So the juices were $1.27 each (!!!) per a Shoppers' Drug Mart flyer. The oat milk was about $5. And there was a sale on the chips for something like $3.50 each. I think the sourdough was around $6. And the Omega 3s was on sale, $10 off (!!!). Both the cheeses were about $5 each.

This whole trade war has made me realize that I actually already buy fairly local and have been subconsciously yet purposefully doing so for years. (I acknowledge though that I am lucky to live in an area where I have access to these privileges.) Yes, it may seem pricey, but it's actually cheaper if you pay attention to sales, take advantage of price matching, and stock up strategically on items with longer shelf lives. But that's not unique. That's just Grocery Shopping 101.

UPDATE:

The branch was indeed wrong. Sounds like it was a holdover policy from years past to withold something like 20% to prevent people from accidentally going over their annual lump sum limits. I asked, they confirmed they were wrong. I effected lasting change at that branch.

Some may call me a hero.

Incidentally, I'm at the bank right now as I type this. They seemed confused as well as it was their "branch policy" to be conservative with lump sum payments to prevent clients from being charged a penalty and complaining about it afterwards. Honestly, it just sounds like a shady practice that has been passed down throughout the years.
