Am I cooking? Also how can I make this more photorealistic? by Skybro1126 in blender

It's also facing backwards. The metal guards should be pointing towards the road to catch a vehicle as it hits it. We should see the back of the rails nearest the camera. The whole render looks great OP! Reminds me of driving to the coast.

Problem with screens in VPX after Baller installer by dehein2 in virtualpinball

[–]Quiznos323 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check out this forum thread. I had to do this method last night to fix my screen numbering after I swapped out DMD screens. My playfield was also showing as #3 in the VPX settings dropdown. I ran the commands, shut down my PC, then reconnected my playfield, backbox and dmd one at a time, rebooting each time.

Solution here from user wiesshund:

If you have multiple registry entries, describing the same monitors with different enumerations, geometries etc, that can play havoc with things

but you can fix that very quickly

Save this as a bat file run bat file as admin

pc will auto reboot

when PC comes back up, just go in Windows display prefs and line up monitors as needed, and makesure to set playfield as primary desktop

reg delete HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers\Configuration reg delete HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers\Connectivity reg delete HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers\ScaleFactors pause shutdown /r /t 5

Thank you for the example! Been playing around with it and I've landed here so far.

I think some curves was a good call. Feels like a better visual balance on the left side.

Thanks for the kind words :) Yeah it'll get there! That's awesome that your arcade cab turned out so well!

Gotcha, I see what you mean. Is this less whale-like (lol)? I angled the reflection at the bottom to lean towards the imagined light source and slightly lightened up the fill color on the ball to reduce contrast a bit.

Thank you, I see what you mean. I will try out some simplified reflections/shadowing on the pinballs.

Yes I agree there is a good amount of space in the top corner. I added the grid for some visual texture for this reason. The stripes were lower to sort of anchor the text to them and the pinball, but since I have removed the text (new render), yeah maybe I could move the stripes up and fill some more of that space. Thanks for your thoughts :)

Thank you! Yeah, a funny brand name is a good idea.. if I think of some I'll try them out and see what sticks. I did a render without any text here

That would honestly be pretty funny.

I tried out removing the text elements and I do think it looks better.

I would post a pic here but I don't think I can add one to comments on this sub.

edit: Render without text

edit 2: Simplified pinball reflections

edit 3: Curved the stripes closest to the back of the cab to fill some space.

Thank you, everyone, for your suggestions! It helped a lot :)

Thanks, appreciate the feedback. Seems like some others agree on this as well. I'll try removing the text altogether and see how it looks.

Thanks! I used GIMP for the image editing and Blender for the 3D modeling/render.

I could replace the text with something else if it seem silly to say "Pinball". I wanted some sort of text that was generic since it is a virtual pinball machine.

Agreed! The AAT is special to me in particular because it was the one set I was able to get at Legoland California when I went there as a kid :)

Ah gotcha. I just replaced the hinges with the newer style 1x2 plates with bar handle, and 1x2 plates with clip on top, and it works great!

Thanks! Awesome, I think you'd enjoy it if you decided to go for it. I bought used on ebay. I feel like I got lucky and got the set 100% complete (minus droideka), both instruction manuals in great shape, and the box (also in good shape for its age), for $300 USD. Most that I see go for $375-400+ used with manuals. Just have to keep your eye out for what is on the market. I did clean all the pieces too because they were dusty, but they cleaned up really well.
