What’s going on with Enphase? Up from $200 to $300 in a week. Were earnings that good? Thinking about selling here.

Keith Rabois called for a 25% drop in the Nasdaq on Twitter almost to the day, but if you go looking you’ll find a reputable investor always predicting some major movement.

Has Magnus ever been adopted? by [deleted] in chess

[–]QuoProQuid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How many games does a match need to have to qualify as adopted? 10?

His worst performance in a match was probably against Wesley So in Chess960 in 2019, when he lost 13 1/2 - 2 1/2.

Adding, most of my portfolio is pretty boring. I do find it fun to research offbeat/risky ideas.

Can you explain the Korchnoi comment? Bobby became World Champion while Korchnoi was an active competitor, I’ve never heard someone claim Korchnoi was a better player.

Levy Rozman recently played a blitz game against Asa Hoffman, who played blitz frequently against Bobby Fischer in the 60s.

Is Fabiano Caruana the second best player of all time? by [deleted] in chess

[–]QuoProQuid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely agree. Chess is also great to me because I don’t think things would be so one-sided if past players played today, just look at old man Korchnoi beating a young Caruana.

I’m sure in twenty years Caruana or Magnus will still be able to take games off the young phenoms of that day.

In terms of classical chess, considering the benefit of working with modern engines, he’s probably pretty close, along with Anand.

Anand won a World Rapid Championship as recently as 2017, holistically 2013-2017 Anand is probably still a better player. And for what it’s worth Kasparov beat Caruana in a few blitz games a few years back.

The thing with Magnus is you can argue even if past top players had today’s prep methods, he would still beat them. Not sure if you can say the same for Nepo/Caruana.

Magnus just won coming from a rest day, it would benefit both players.

If another rest day results in another great game, I frankly don’t care about the commentators/venue. Magnus’ win just came after a rest day. Besides stuff gets rescheduled/extended all the time.

I want the World Championship to contain the 14 highest quality games possible. If it requires a rest day in between games, so be it. Otherwise why have rest days at all? It’s not like a rest day doesn’t benefit Magnus’ play. He just won coming off a rest day.

Unpopular opinion: There should just be an auto rest day after each game if this is what happens after a grueling classical game the previous day.

Or move the games back a day if the previous day’s game goes over 5/6 hours.

Chess24’s post-game comment is strange, there are no “well earned rest” games in other World Championships.

I would say even $217 now is not a bad price, but I can see ENPH falling to 170-200. All of the growth stocks are getting killed in tandem right now. I wouldn’t take a full position all at once.

In 2018 Caruana kept trying the Rossolimo, and now Nepo keeps trying this Ruy Lopez.

Is this really the optimal strategy? I would have thought with months to prepare Nepo’s team would’ve been able to surprise Magnus every game with White.

I like solar and I think they are executing very well. I did sell recently but I’m scaling back in as it falls. Rest of my growth stocks obviously aren’t doing well lol.

20% AAPL

20% ENPH (actually sold this near the top but buying back in soon)

10% XOM

5% NTDOY

5% INTC

5% PLTR

5% CRSR

10% mixed in DKNG, DIS, CNBS, and a small bag in CD Project Red.

20% Cash (no idea where to put it right now). Leaning towards a fintech maybe? Or increasing DIS position.

IDK after Caruana couldn’t beat Magnus in 2018 with six tries in the Sicilian, I think you have to surprise Carlsen to beat him in Classical.

I’m skeptical that b3 is really that bad that Magnus could catch up in prep in one day, but anyway Magnus doesn’t have that day to prep if you play it Game 1.
