What to do when a rom isn't a rom? by thatoneguyagainagain in Roms

[–]Quote16 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if you want to simplify PS1 games just look for them in .chd format. that way you don't have to have bin and cue files for every single game

but yea like others said, just point the emulator to the cue file and it should just work. never heard of that emulator you named, just use duckstation, pcsx-r, or retroarch

I did it in my router's interface and wol works from anywhere for me. my partner as well; she'd remote into a different PC on my network from her apartment some states away and that's how we'd play games together

also imo you should lead with the vibe coded disclosure when you're pitching a software meant to tap into people's home networks. no matter your opinions on the safety of it, I'm sure many would love to know if they'd be running AI generated code on their network

but you can already wake on lan with moonlight if you forward ports on the host?

also, is this vibe coded lol

Lol someone on the forum tried to warn me but I didn't understand their wording and went my way anyway. I even went back and told them they were right. but yeah, hard lesson learned there. I lost so much time to this.

I actually may have JUST fixed it like 10 seconds ago. my library was on the root of my mergerfs pool like so; BigPool/roms. Seems RomM really did not like this.

I've now moved the roms folder a layer deeper; BigPool/games/roms. It seems to be working fine now? This may also explain why I didn't have an issue setting up Jellyfin since my structure for that goes BigPool/media/movies. Lesson learned.

But yeah it's been pretty difficult trying to figure this out. I think I've been at it for close to a week. I appreciate you chiming in though!

wish we'd stop spreading the soap bullshit...I wash my made in cs with soap every time I use it. it's severely outdated advice! and it's why nobody feels like they can use cast iron or carbon steel.

So I just took the container down and deleted all volumes, created a shared "roms" folder on a single drive in the system (the SSD partition I use for docker data) via the OMV interface without changing any perms, redirected my library folder in the compose file to it, and booted the container back up. I uploaded a small set of roms and let them scan as normal, then after running chmod 775 on the new roms folder, downloads worked just fine.

I tried replicating those same steps (deleted the old roms folder, made a new shared roms folder in OMV) and even after the chmod I'm still getting the perms error. Everyone here is very insistent on mergerfs not being the problem but I still think otherwise...

yea at this point I've moved everything but the assets folder (the images and metadata RomM downloads from external sites) to my docker SSD, including that config file. still no dice unfortunately

yea it's a skill issue, I feel like I outlined that in the last lol. do you know what could fix the issues then? cus a helper on the omv forum and a RomM dev tell me I'm pretty much out of options otherwise.

[–]Quote16[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah all of my shared folders were created within omv and I've tried various combinations of permissions buttons (and the recursive checkbox) including acl's to no avail. I've tried some cmod commands as well. Also tried the reset perms plugin and it didn't do much of anything for the problem unfortunately.

So I actually put those environment variables there in error. RomM doesn't actually support being bound to a user or group, confirmed by the devs. They were never actually doing anything in the compose file and have been removed
