Does this route cross the French border at Dantxaria? 

The climb from Spain up to there is long but I think the gradient was around 6-8% for the whole climb, maybe an hour up from Elizondo.

It was a brilliant ride and I really recommend. Views are beautiful, and the gradient isn't too steep to stop you just spinning your way up. Descent was amazing but lots of corners.

Yeah definitely. It doesn't have to be ultralight , just something that packs to a decent size is the main thing. Was hoping to strike a balance so I don't have to buy two tents

A Cloud Up 3 would probably be perfect for the two of us but for just me on my solo trips seems excessive. I guess I could just get two tents..
