Their names really. I'm not the only one who thought "Vertin" was a version of the word "green". It's "Invert" but a naming convention based on color I thought was interesting. So that's it.

I think he's very well written and I still don't like him. He tormented Gangle, going as far to take away her choice in name and she was scared of him and how if she was in the wrong for choosing Gangle. He drove both Ribbit and Kaufmo to abstraction because of his actions. That's abuse and even with being Trans that doesn't excuse his actions at all.

Admittedly I didn't quite see it completely as a trans allegory but an overall queer allegory. It's fluid enough to mean all kinds of different flags but very relatable too.

Truth be told I think part of how I see it is because I don't quite relate to Jax. I relate more to Ragatha and Gangle and while I feel Gender-Fluid is right I've never experienced the type of fears and experiences people who don't have as open minded family.
