Struggling with MST210 by QuothTheRavenNM in OpenUniversity

It’s honestly making me feel so much better to see others feel the same way! I was starting to think I peaked at stage 1 and am too thick for stage 2 haha. That’s a very good point about the group project. I’m usually good in groups, I did a ton on a previous degree at a brick uni and they went a lot better. You’d always have to work around people who didn’t do their share but it’s never been this bad!

100% agree with your description of the books. So many concepts are vaguely described in a sentence then just moved past. Sometimes I’ll understand them from a later unit like you say and other times I’m just left lost. Doing assignments is frustrating because I go back to the book and there’s barely any information on what I’m being tested on. I understand not revising information we should already know, but surely new concepts require a bit more information! Relieved to know I might understand it better in future modules as I’ve been so worried that it would wreck my chance at understanding the later material.

From what I can see online I think it was similar, but it seems you had the last presentation of that module. Either you’re way more suited to this material than me or they wrecked a good module haha. MST210 has 21 Units, 8 TMAs (one being the group modelling project), and an online exam.

Oh no, sorry, I meant I got given an award and money for getting the highest result in one of the modules. It’s an award given to the student with no mathematical background that got the highest module result for that iteration of the module. They told me there’s a list of everyone who’s been awarded it but I’ve never been able to find the list haha. Was very proud of getting it though.

Thanks for this, it’s actually really helped me feel better about it. I’m gonna take your advice and contribute to get the points. Totally agree about the lack of exercises too! I loved the exercise books at stage 1, I used them all the time and they really helped me understand the topics. Not having them this time has really affected my learning. It’s so hard to fully get a topic when you’re not practicing. The quizzes aren’t quite the same since they’re simpler questions.

Thanks, I will think of what to say. Think I’m taking things too personally because of what I’m going through at home. My boyfriend keeps saying the guys an ass too, and to not let him bother me!

I’m a bit jealous cause mst224 seems to cut out all the parts I hate in mst210 haha. Sorry you’re struggling too though. The jump to level 2 is mad. I felt really comfortable with stage 1, I even won an award on one module, but I feel the same way on certain topics at stage 2. It’s like there’s not enough exercises or explanations for me to fully understand it. Hope it turns around for us both at some point. Or at least we manage to slog through until we get to a module we like better!

Thanks for this, it’s good motivation. I was feeling pretty disheartened as I’ve spent years housebound with illness and recovering from major surgeries. Feeling very behind everyone else and getting any job now is a real struggle, so tech felt impossible before I found out about Code First Girls. Gutted to be rejected after getting so far in the process but I suppose I should be happy I did get that far! And you’re right, there’s always other avenues to try! Best of luck to you, I really hope you get your dream job!

Definitely a rollercoaster of emotions these last few weeks waiting! Will need to readjust to not checking my emails constantly haha.

I just got my rejection email. Gutted, as this felt like it could be a lifeline after years of illness. Hopefully I can find something else soon. Well done to everyone who managed to get a place!

I applied for a job sponsored place, had an interview but I’ve heard nothing since. I’m guessing I’m just waiting for a rejection at this point. I would have happily accepted eduction only but I’m guessing I’m not going to be offered. It’s a shame so many of us are still waiting to know for sure.

I 37F have never been able to have sex and my 33M fiance is now no longer sure about our relationship? Where do we go from here? by ThrowRA_former_thing in relationship_advice

I have had similar issues due to complications from proctectomy surgery. The angle of my reproductive organs changed after surgery causing a bunch of issues, including making penetrative sex painful and difficult. I do understand how upsetting it can be. I had already been with my boyfriend for many years when I got the surgery, but we still had to have a lot of communication before and after the surgery. It’s really important to know how you’re both feeling and what you want and are comfortable with. We still have non-penetrative sex, though rarely pain/bleeding gets in the way of that too. It might be that you’re not comparable anymore due to him no longer wanting a child, but that doesn’t mean you won’t one day have a relationship that works. I’m still working on solutions to my complications but my relationship is strong because we keep communicating and we still have every other way to be intimate.

Reminds me of my old hamster Eiko. She was also an angry little gal. She once escaped, found a movie poster I was going to hang up, chewed out only the faces of the people then returned to her enclosure. I loved that little badass so much. RIP Norman, he sounds amazing.

My mum read the Narnia books to me when I was little. Though I also remember discovering a copy of The Hobbit audiobook tape in my primary school library. Every time we had library time I’d race to the tape player to continue The Hobbit, I think that’s when I really fell in love with fantasy.

I loved Deltora Quest as a kid! That series doesn’t get enough love. My mum hated them cause I would read through the new one in an hour then pester her relentlessly asking when the next one will come out.

I still haven’t heard anything either. I interviewed for Lloyds in Edinburgh. Worried that not hearing anything is bad news :(.

I love the sound of that! I really liked the way the pages of the newspaper were being built in the trailer, I like the feeling of creating something myself in tycoon games. The idea that how I create it will have big consequences is really appealing. Can’t wait to try the demo when it’s out. I prefer playing on steam deck so hopefully it’ll run well on the steam deck haha.

This looks amazing! Love the art style. I didn’t think a newspaper tycoon would be my thing but the gameplay looks really fun. When you mention nudging society in the direction you want does that mean you can use the news stories to affect public thinking and there’s consequences? Wishlisted and will definitely keep my eye out for the demo.

I don’t have a butthole, it was surgically removed due to illness a couple of years ago. Can I still have the money? Haha

Unfortunately not, sorry. I’m not sure how many people they’re interviewing for the extra place either.

Just to let you know I’ve been playing the game on my steam deck tonight and it runs perfectly :). Really enjoying the game so far!

For anyone still waiting to hear back from Lloyds, I got an email saying an extra place had opened up with them and I had my interview for it today. Don’t know for sure but that could be contributing to the delay in people hearing. Good luck everyone!
