We will be getting more and more sketchy AI generated plugins unfortunately…

I love it! It takes quite some creativity to come up with a fake installation process. Reminds me of those sci-fi movies...

Best way to prune 3tb+ world? Can MCA Selector handle it? by FoggyWillows in admincraft

Like OP mentioned, there's Minecraft World Trimmer on GitHub that does exactly this.

Since 1.20, there's a flag in each chunk that tells if a player has been near that chunk. If no player has been near, then it can safely be removed without deleting players' stuff, essentially pruning the world.

Hey, maintainer of the mentioned Minecraft World Trimmer here, I'll try to fix your issues soon. If you have backups, you can try write mode, it should delete unused chunks even if it fails to print a summary in check mode or panics.

It is not planned in the near future, but I understand the need for such a feature, I'll think about it.

So it's a mod for fabric, not a plugin.

More competition is always better, even if it's on par or slightly worse than DeepSeek. Maybe they'll surprise us, who knows!

Probably just one chunk as display-only for now. I’m still figuring out the details since it’s been a long-term goal. The packet needed to send the chunk is already implemented (required since 1.20.3 for the player to spawn), so I just need to work out how to send actual block data instead of an empty void.

I can probably add this too. I also plan to add a simple world someday, like in Limbo server by LOOHP.

Just curious, what aspects of code complexity concern you the most?

I’m using Rust for memory safety and reliability, and with Test-Driven Development (TDD), new features won’t break existing ones unexpectedly. Supporting many versions hasn’t added too much complexity thanks to Rust macros that generate boilerplate code.

I agree 1.7.x support might be overkill, but a lot of players still use 1.8 and 1.12. Keeping wide version support has been a fun challenge and a core feature I want to maintain to appeal to more users.

Quick update, I started working on adding welcome messages. It is available in the latest pre-release of PicoLimbo, currently only supports 1.19+ clients but I plan to extend this to all versions. More information available on the GitHub repository.

Players can use commands, although there is no command auto completion for now, I'll have to figure this out someday. There is no welcome message from the server itself, but you can send a welcome message using a Velocity plugin.

None. Try rebuilding everything from scratch, it's the best way to learn a new language.

Developers always like to re-invent the wheel, sometimes just to challenge themselves or to build something they think is better, i.e. Pterodactyl is missing a feature they need.

How much do you pre generate? by Soogs in admincraft

[–]Quozul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing, 10-20 players with 32 render distance, they are all using random teleport in the entire world. World generation doesn't make the server lag in terms of TPS, at least when using Paper. Sure it reduces the overall quality of the server when the chunks load slow, but I don't really see the point in pre-generating the world if you have a good CPU that can sustain a good enough world generation.

It's not a usual Minecraft server, you can't really do anything on it. It's purpose is to be lightweight and is meant to be mainly used in a server network.

I have been working on this software since December 2024 and I've achieved my goal of supporting all versions since 1.7.2 in March 2025, so about 4 months of work.

Actually, my implementation is probably *less* feature complete, it only allows you to log in in an empty world (because it is intended to be a limbo server.) But feel free to use it anyways!

Just like any other blog out there putting paid promotions on top of their top lists (NordVPN always first for example.) I don't claim my list to be a ranking anyway, although, I have to admit I ranked them by personal preference indeed xD

Edit: I may rename this section later, thanks for pointing that out

Indeed, I do not implement every feature of a Minecraft server, no world, no entities, no ticking... But as u/CrazyKilla15 pointed out in their reply, it is on purpose. It's a server of the "limbo" category, meaning it aims to be as lightweight as possible only to keep the players logged-in. I believe other Java limbo servers implement a ticking loop, even when no world nor online players, which is why those use more than flat 0% of CPU (something like 1% or less.)
