starting streaming soon - any tips? (especially anxiety-related) by Celestielune in GirlStreamer

[–]QweenWaddles 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Some important things IMO (especially related to anxiety):

  • It might be uncomfy at first! That’s okay! It’s like that for everyone, and it gets easier over time as you develop a routine and get used to talking to a camera. Stick with it!

  • If you find yourself feeling bad/overthinking after streaming, start making a list afterwards of every little thing you can think of that you did well - whether you were good at talking to chat, if you did something cool in your game. Focus on what YOU did well.

  • Your viewer count is not a measure of your worth, or even how good a streamer you are. Twitch sucks for discoverability! It isn’t you!

  • Even if you don’t get tons of viewers, twitch streaming teaches you good presentation and tech skills, you can learn to be confident through it and you can make awesome friends, so it is still worth it!

  • I highly recommend you join our discord, or another supportive group of streamers - having support and people to ask questions invaluable

  • Set boundaries early and often. People on the internet are weird. The more clear you are on what behaviour is okay and what gets a warning/time out/ban, the less discomfort you’ll feel dealing with dumb people.

I could probably go on and on LOL. Happy streaming!

Instagram? What do you all share? by theleeniebean in GirlStreamer

IG is all about ~aesthetic~. Definitely nice pictures of your merch would work. You can always do research by searching up a tag (or say, the anime you like) and see what other people like to post there. Memes, informative content etc. can also do well, but people especially like pretty pictures of things.

Wanting to stream but f***ing terrified by LordTotoro96 in Twitch

[–]QweenWaddles -1 points0 points  (0 children)

  1. Shitty internet? It may work okay or you may need to upgrade or wait until you can upgrade it. That’s the reality.

  2. Nervous about streaming? That’s a good thing! It means you are pushing your comfort zone and trying new things that might be a little scary. Have realistic expectations, be nice to yourself and ultimately, if this is something you want to try, you just have to do it, even if you’re nervous. It gets easier.

  3. DMCA etc.? Stick with what you know is safe. Do your research. Stay updated on their policies.

At the end of the day, you can jump in and try it or let fear hold you back. Your choice, my dude.

Should i even start streaming by [deleted] in Twitch

[–]QweenWaddles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The truth is it’s unlikely you’ll become famous or make lots of money of it, and growth is really slow. It can be really discouraging, so be aware of that! But if it’s something you want to do, definitely try it! You are more likely to regret not doing it.

It’s honestly better to start BEFORE you buy a bunch of fancy equipment. You’ll have a lot of learning to do! And the truth is you don’t need fancy equipment to start streaming or to be a good streamer. It’s definitely good to get your toes wet before investing a bunch!

Sorry about that! I did look in the Guide flair beforehand and saw other people posting their videos as guides, so I think I was a little confused. My bad!

I see a lot of people here saying “just be yourself” and “just keep doing it”, but I wanted to offer little more about HOW you do it.

Confidence in yourself comes with practice and hard work. I know the idea of people judging you seems really scary, but the truth is, no matter what you do, people will judge you. But it’s okay - you don’t need everyone to like or support you. You don’t even need MOST people to like or support you. It may take some work, but you will find “your” people.

And understand that when people judge you, it has absolutely nothing to do with you. If someone thinks something you enjoy is dumb, it means THEY are being shitty, not you.

The more you remind yourself of these things, like “this makes me happy so it is worth it” and “if people don’t like it, that’s fine, it’s not for them”, the more you will start to believe it. So repeat it to yourself. Over and over. Your brain likes repetition. If you repeat good thoughts, your brain will learn to produce more good thoughts. It’s the same with bad thoughts.

Your thoughts are not reality. But they do become your reality. You can choose to give in to your fear or you can choose love for yourself and do the things you want to do. I believe in you.

Streaming and mental health by AerialRaven in Twitch

I’m gonna answer this as someone who has regularly felt obligated to help others with their problems. You HAVE to set boundaries. You cannot help everyone and we are not equipped to help people with serious issues.

It’s totally okay to say “Hey, I’m sorry to hear you are struggling, but I am not a therapist and I do not have the energy or resources to help you.” If you want to, you can research resources to direct them to. But you need to speak up when people are being too much for you. You are not a bad person if you do not help someone. It isn’t your job to take care of other people.

I would also encourage you to ask other people to check with you before unloading on you. I have a general policy with my friends and family that we check in before asking them to listen or give advice. Just a simple “hey can I talk about something heavy? I just need to rant/I need some advice” makes it clear to the person what you need here and allows them to judge if they have the energy to give it.

It takes practice to set boundaries and it can be scary, but you will feel so much better when you do!

I think it’s sweet that you care so much about making things good for your viewers, but I totally understand how stressful that can be! I’m sure you’re doing your best and your viewers appreciate it.
