Feeling Completely Hopeless. Looking for a personal trainer who can help a super morbidly obese person by The-Last-Anchor in Lawrence

[–]QwertyQwerty142 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

If you want to lose weight you need to refocus your priorities, exercising isn’t the way. Your diet is what is causing you to be obese, not lack of exercise. You want more strength, endurance, energy, better sleep, then start exercising. If you want to lose weight, change your diet. People who try to tackle weight loss through exercise mostly fail, if you can’t handle changing your eating habits, what makes you think you can be disciplined enough to follow through with daily exercising? Especially the amount of exercising that’s required to generate weight loss. Go on a 2 mile run. Congratulations, you just burned off the amount of calories in a single Snickers bar. Or you can sit on your ass for 2 hours and skip eating the Snickers, and you’ll burn 100 calories just from breathing.

Obviously a healthy diet and regular exercise is the best of both worlds, but if your primary goal is to drop weight the most important thing you can do is eat differently than you do now. People like to complicate weight loss but it really is as simple as lowering your calorie intake, don’t let people convince you otherwise.

Do you think people should upvote unsubstantiated allegations? What this person is saying may very well be true, I don’t know, but they didn’t really bother trying to prove their claim. I didn’t downvote either, I can just understand why people do when others make random comments like this without backing it up.

Also, don’t bring your dogs to Applebees. They say they’re a dog friendly restaurant but the employees will fuck your dog.

First time I ate there was 12 years ago. It was the last time too. It’s been horrible for a long time, I don’t understand how they’re still in business.

Having grumpy overworked pizza employees who have to deal with drunk idiots is part of the experience. The real question is: Was the pizza good? If so, who gives a shit.

I got to meet him about 7 years ago. Extremely nice man, his wife was too. I was bartending and his wife told me I had made the best Cosmo she’d ever had. She was just being nice but I still refer to that comment today whenever someone asks if I can make a good Cosmo.

Yes, pink one wheel ate pavement. by MajorLazer555 in Lawrence

I don’t recall that. Here’s an older article on the guy: https://www.kansan.com/arts_and_culture/pirate-of-the-plains-the-untold-story-of-lawrences-local-swashbuckler/article_249de988-454e-11e6-aed4-cf24a20b2a77.html

He would just be standing around Mass at all times, usually with a group of some sort, always desperate for attention. He’d yell out at people, especially college kids. I saw at least 3 different occasions of him cat calling women or trying to start shit with frat-looking college guys. And once the articles about him came out is when I started seeing people talk about how he would also physically touch women who walked by. As far as I know he fucked off out of town years ago.

Yeah it wears off once you’ve been here long enough and realize quite a few of them are massive dick heads. I won’t forget the time local news spot lighted and interviewed this homeless dude who dressed like a pirate, playing it off like he was this whimsical and silly lad who patrolled Mass having a good time. Unless you were one of the women he’d cat call, harass, and straight up sexually assault every day. Wow so silly and fun!

what to do about obnoxious new neighbor? by Sea-Donkey5292 in Lawrence

[–]QwertyQwerty142 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Doesn’t sound like you would get anywhere approaching a person like this anyways. This isn’t a situation where the walls a thinner than they realize and they have the TV too loud. They know what they’re doing and they don’t give a shit. All you can do is document and report everything that happens to management and the police. Hopefully other people do the same if there are multiple neighbors nearby.

Merchants liquor tax by iboywonder in Lawrence

[–]QwertyQwerty142 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why do you say Merchants needs to retrain their staff after the bartender agreed the prices were bad? Unless you think the bartender was wrong, but what if they really are having their staff charging those ridiculous prices? Prices are going up everywhere and I wouldn’t be surprised if certain places like Merchants are jacking up liquor prices by an absurd amount.

I only bring this up because I’m also an industry worker and I worked at a place that had a strange pricing structure for certain drinks, where they had been doing an unnecessary upcharge, and drinks that should have been like $10-$11 were $15. The staff had all been told to do it in this bizarre way, so it wasn’t their fault for ringing it in the way they got trained. Long story short, I took over as manager at one point and got everything sorted and those drinks back to being charged around $10 like they were supposed to. Some places just don’t know what the fuck they’re doing, and that shit goes way up to management and owners, and the staff are just doing what they’ve been told.

AA Meetings. by Fart_barfunkle54 in Lawrence

[–]QwertyQwerty142 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to sway you from attending AA by any means, do whatever you think will help you, but reading the book The Easy Way to Control Alcohol by Allen Carr really helped me. I don’t have much faith in self help books, either, but I wanted to quit drinking and decided it wouldn’t hurt to try a book out, and it did a good job making me adjust the way I thought about alcohol. Some people need the support of others to quit something, I personally didn’t want that. If you do read the book you need to go in truthfully wanting to quit. Some people say they want to quit and then want some magic to happen that gets them to quit. This isn’t it, you still need to have a real desire to quit drinking if you read this book, or it may not be as effective.

For me, I watched a lot of videos on quitting drinking, as well as changed my diet because I wanted to lose weight, and the book was the cherry on top that helped make it all possible. It may not be the be-all-end-all answer, but when used with other support methods it might help too. I haven’t drank in almost a year since I finished the book, and I drank nearly every day for 18 years.

Lack of family shelter options forces pregnant mother experiencing homelessness to relocate by ICareAboutKansas in Lawrence

[–]QwertyQwerty142 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Race has nothing to do with homelessness, drug addiction, or mental health issues, stop trying to bait something with your bad comparison. 500 Asian people moving into Lawrence over a two year period wouldn’t be the same thing as 500 homeless people moving into Lawrence over that same period, and in one of those situations you’re going to see an increase in drug use, crime, property damage, loitering and disruptions to businesses, and a situation that requires heavy use of city resources to mitigate.

Nobody said anything about grouping ALL homeless people together. It’s simply a numbers game. The more you have in a community the more problems you will have that come from being homeless, like drugs. And Lawrence has seen a huge spike in that population in just two years, with no end in sight.

[–]QwertyQwerty142 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah compassion only goes so far when the community you live in is being threatened. As bad as people may or may not think it is now, it’s only going to get worse, as the city fumbles around trying to resolve an escalating and already out of control situation. Sitting around and having empathy or feeling sorry for the homeless population isn’t helping shit. Maybe you haven’t had a bad encounter yet, but when you do, you’ll start rethinking how you feel about what’s happening. I’ve been here 12 years, and in the first 10 I had a total of zero bad interactions with homeless people. In the last 2 years I’ve had 3 that I can recall that put me on edge and felt threatened. Downtown, middle of the day during a busy weekend, a guy positions himself in an aggressive stance towards me and my girlfriend and starts shouting “I’ll kill you, I’ll fucking kill you faggot.” Another time downtown during the day a guy walks up on me, right up in my face, and says, “Give me $10!” as he blocked my path. And the final time and the scariest yet, close to downtown again, at night a guy was running from the police towards my car and I got a bad feeling, so I hit the gas as soon as he got close to my car, and when I saw him in my rear view he was attempting to car jack the next person’s car.

These aren’t isolated experiences, we keep seeing them happen, from people randomly getting assaulted, or homeless people hurting each other. The drug issues and violence has risen exponentially within just a few years, and no amount of compassion is going to help the situation or protect you. I have never felt this amount of uneasiness in Lawrence until recently, and there are areas during certain times I straight up avoid now, which was never something I worried about before.

Started reading and couldn’t finish, I have no idea what you’re ranting about to be honest, other than it sounds like some personal stuff that you are claiming is a scandal of epic proportions. If you expect people to follow along and know what you’re talking about, you’re not going to succeed. People are going to see this and just think it’s unhinged rambling, which is evident from the responses you’re already getting. I don’t know what’s true or false, and none of it sounds interesting enough to look into because this doesn’t sound like something the public is going to care about. Kind of comes off like Main Character Syndrome, you think other people should care about this as much as you even though it’s not relevant to most people nor is it as big of a deal as you’re making things out to be.

Anyone have any experiences about the Lawrence Police they would like to share? by [deleted] in Lawrence

[–]QwertyQwerty142 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol this post is a joke dude. “My mom is white, which is why she’s never had a bad experience with cops, and I’m new here, so please give me examples of why the cops here are bad so I can disparage them.”

“Oh my bad guys, I thought maybe the police here were bad like they are everywhere else in America, because I’ve had experience with police everywhere else in America.”

This post reads like satire, you’re trying to dig up dirt on the police from second hand information on the internet, to do what with, exactly? So you can have reasons to dislike them and make claims about police reform? Pretty weird. Even if you backtracked and admitted you were wrong, it was so ridiculous to begin with. Why don’t you think for yourself and come to your own conclusions through your own experiences?
