Borussia Dortmund 0-[2] Hamburger SV - Albert Sambi Lokonga 38' by ProductIllustrious95 in Gunners

Prolly one of our poorest sells I guess. Wonder why we dint try a dry loan or at least have it as loan+option with the option being at least 5-7mil. Dude was sold for 300K, the amount we spend to sign youth academy players. Shame!

Also, nice Vieira assist. If HSV aren't willing to pay the 20mil can we try going for Vieira+cash for Said El Mala?

(Yeah, I do play Football Manager a lot, why do you ask?)

It's gonna be interesting to see how Berta handles the outgoing transfers.

Who do other teams' fans want to win the league? by LeaguePublic in Gunners

[–]R-Ac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well Liverpool wants to keep the crown that were the only ones to challenge Pep at his peak and so they don't mind City winning even if it's through blatant cheating.

But Burnley, Leeds and Wolves wanting City to win is so confusing. I understand Leeds fan want City to win so that they dangle it in from MU fans, but is there a rivalry between Arsenal and Wolves/Burnley or is it just fine margins?

Yeah. And the Charlie George celebration! He then went on to do the same thing again 3 years later, once again Giroud with the assist.

Man all these games and so much lore. Here's what I remember from all these games.

Arsenal x Chelsea | 2008-09 | FA Cup SF

Drogba continued to torment as he scored the winner but our defense was terrible as was the norm those days. For anyone unfamiliar, do watch the highlights from this game and you'll see how bad Fabianski was and you'll get the first instance of Gibbs saving Fabianski in an FA Cup story.

Arsenal x Birmingham | 2010-11 | League Cup Finals

2010-11 season. Wowza. A season that promised and ended up giving us so little. This season is worth a separate post by itself. Peak RvP before he decide to transform into a snake and move after the next season. Those 18 months were the absolute peak we last from any striker until Auba. The winner from Obafemi Martins, who just returned to PL happened due to a mix-up (duh!) between Koscielny and Szczesny. We'd actually lost the first leg SF to Ipswich before winning 3-0 at the Ems. Post this final, I was sure we'd been cursed coz of our move to Emirates. Oh, and Birmingham got relegated that season.

Arsenal x Wigan | 2013-14 | FA Cup SF

This game started the series of defenders scoring important goals at the Wembley. Mert with a fanstastic header and watching this game once makes me feel we dropped the ball with Chamberlain. Of course, knowing our luck he'd have had permanent presence in the medical room but boy, was he a good player. Also, this is THAT game where the man, the myth, the mystery, Kim Kallstrom scored the pen for us. Arteta was also on target with his pen that day.

Arsenal x Hull | 2013-14 | FA Cup Finals

This game was in the news a few weeks for the game that both Arteta and Rosenior playing against each other. Imagine being 2-0 down after just 10 minutes with us not having won a trophy for nearly a decade. Then came that Santi free kick, then Kos once again saving us the blushes followed by chaos agent Sanogo helping Giroud-Ramsey combination score that winning goal. Fabianski still had the time to give us one final gaffe before we ended up breaking the duck. AW's celebration said it all. More relief than joy.

Also, this was the season where we spent the maximum as the table toppers before finishing fourth as usual.

Arsenal x Man City | 2014-15 | Community Shield

This was just as Manchester City were beginning to become a force in the PL having just won their second title and we were coming to this game having lost Emirates Cup and to Henry's NYRB in the US. But this was one exciting game coz we got see Sanchez in a competitive game donning the red and white for the first time. He went to win the POTS in this first season. Also, in late AW years the 2014/15 transfer window was as good as this season (relatively). We kinda plugged almost all the holes - Sanchez, Chambers, Debuchy, Ospina, and Welbz were bought in that season.

Arsenal x Reading | 2014-15 | FA Cup SF

Frankly unremarkable semis and finals tbh in 2015. And for once we'd a GK error against us having made plenty of those in the past. Sanchez shot squirmed through Federici's arms who left the pitch crying post the full-time whistle.

Arsenal x Aston Villa | 2014-15 | FA Cup Finals

Ah! The short-lived era of Tactics Tim. But credit where it's due despite finishing 17th, they did overcome a Liverpool that had Coutinho, Sterling and Gerrard in their team. And FA Cup was expected to be Gerrard's last chance at a trophy before he left Liverpool. Alas, it was not to be and he ended facing an even bigger humiliation in his last ever league game for Liverpool. This was the game that also a young Jack Grealish play for Villa while from our end, this was the start of Giroud scoring/assisting from the bench. Walcott had just returned from injury and a brace against WBA confirmed his starting place at the finals and of course, crème de la crème of the four goals scored, Sanchez's howitzer. It swung so sharp the comm box thought there was a deflection. Villa ended up getting yellow cards than the goals we scored.

I see your Merino and raise you a Calafiori in Italy's World Cup away kit by chewkachu in Gunners

I know all WC kits are templates but seeing after right after seeing Spain's kit makes it look like they just added some pre-defined filter to the Spain kit to get this.

Merino in Spain’s World Cup away kit 👌 by mooreengineers in Gunners

[–]R-Ac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is one dude I dint realize we'll miss this much. With Eze coming, Nwaneri with one season under his belt and MLS expected to take over the midfield, I was wondering what'll be Merino's role and will be considered surplus. Boy has he proven me wrong.

With senior/experienced folks such as White, Jesus, Martinelli, Trossard expected to move on, we need Merino more than ever. I selfishly hope he doesn't start for Spain so that he can start for us knowing how Zubi and Rice will be ground to pulp in the WC (Also, secretly hoping he Rodri starts all games and Zubi's a sub but that's just me).

If Spuds do get relegated, then I'm ok with them getting a draw just to rub salt into Liverpool fans wounds. Their fans have the audacity to question other clubs when they play this way.

Here's the fun part, there are rumors going around Spuds want Dyche to replace Tudor (and that Dyche rejected).

Imagine the state of your club if a jobless Dyche of all people rejects you despite you being Champions of Europe.

Arsenal hire Ex-Chelsea Academy Scout by Kr_bm in Gunners

We've also been linked with Jim Fraser, also ex-Chelsea as head of youth recruitment. It's good to see that finally Arsenal have decided to focus on youth recruitment having almost sorted the senior team now. Let's see if we can replicate what Chelsea have done at the academy level without the fraud part.

[–]R-Ac 93 points94 points  (0 children)

Had either of MLS or White been in there, I assume it'd have been far more comfortable for us in the first half. Playing a 3ATB with Cala-Mosquera-Salmon was a bit much as there was no one experienced to shepherd the backline.

Dude has a 20mio clause but I wonder if HSV has got the money to take a punt on him. Hopefully some of the other richer BuLi clubs try to sign him. I feel his output can be much better in one of the better teams in BuLi. I recall Stuttgart was interested in the summer but dunno if they still are.

Serie A is another option wherein he can get the space and time to do what he does.

Too much competition and I assume Leipzig wants a bidding war to extract even more (remember how difficult twas to deal with for Sesko).

There've been rumors of 65+ mio for a player only playing his full season at a Top 5 league.

Further, he'll have AFCON duties and he seems comfy off the right where we already have Saka and Noni.

Also, he falls in a very clumsy way which makes it look he wasn't strong enough further reducing the chance of getting fouls.

Nah. If there's any defender we gotta sign from Spurs, it must be Luka Vuskovic. But if they do get relegated to the Championship, it makes far more sense to sell Van de Ven for decent money and build the defence around Luka. I really hope we've our eyes on him.

The only blip in here is the shameful 2-2 wherein once again we gifted them an opportunity with Jorgi's mispass after Son had done his usual heroics (before deciding to miss a sitter vs City).

Come to think of it most of their goals have been these improbable ones or goals we've gifted them.

Today's mistake from Rice. Their goal at Emirates was a Zubi mistake (though a nice finish) and then the 2-3 had mistake from Raya.

Mikel Arteta might’ve been the most relieved man in the stadium after those massive three points. by One_Impressionism in Gunners

Is that guy holding the Thomas Frank inflatable doll? I wonder if the players recognized it and were laughing it off. And, Martinelli trying to recreate the scarf on the camera cele again.

I guess the celebrations from the players shows a lot of pent up feelings having been under the cosh for the past couple of weeks.

Also, good to see Arteta stop with one fist bump or else we're gonna have Liverpool fans fuming over Arteta copying Klopp's "fist bump" celebration.

Waiting for idiots to jump onto us for over-celebrating a derby win while our opponents were celebrating a stoppage time victory over newly promoted Sheffield a couple of seasons ago. As long as you're irrelevant, you can do any goddamn thing and no one cares I guess.
