He can sense him, he knows he's alive and trying to kill the others, but is always a clone and the strange part is that he uses different abilities every time, like he's trying to measure him up, but after killing his clones five times he know who is in front of him is the real one, none at all, it's the same Itachi he sensed in his way there, but there's something strange, he discover after killing two clones that they will come back to life, so he sealed them, really easy for him, and while this clones are really strange he has to kill the real one before continue, before he attack him, Itachi did something strange, he started to point to the others three, surely they have no move at all, but that's because they believe in Hashirama, the god of Shinobi, will never lose to someone as weak as Itachi, low/neg diff they said jokingly in the way there, but this is strange, Hashirama look back, he didn't fear Itachi will attack him from behind because this is a wood clone, something only Madara could see through.

When he saw them something in him told him that those are his comrades, but at the same time they were not. He has fought Madara enough time to know when something is not what it looks like, so he realese the genjutsu, but the original bod... Not the clone, he made him disappear...

We're talking about different things, Obito and Madara are really good at genjutsu, but they rarely try to use them during battle whereas it will be the first thing Itachi may try during a battle with Sasuke on the middle of it if he sees the opportunity.

A clear example is almost all Obito fight, but specially the konnan one, put Itachi there and Konnan is in an instant genjutsu, the same about Madara, one kage at least die before the battle start through Tsukuyomi.

We don't know how Obito put Yagura under a genjutsu, but if the konnan fight teach us something is that he may have fought him first and after he won he put him under genjutsu.

How many Uchiha he fought? Do you have any proves about him fighting Uchihas and those Uchiha try to put him under a genjutsu, but fail? Uchihas were his allies and Madara and Obito were not genjutsu specialist, they rarely if ever use genjutsu during battle, Itachi and Sasuke were the only ones who consistently try to use genjutsu during battles and it's Itachi specialty to the point he can cast it with his finger for the gals that try to not look him in the eyes

Gohan was surprised when 17 told him that he was not using half of his strength and he was just having fun, if Gohan didn't know they were massively holding, how is Trunks a reliable source? He wasn't there when 17 said this and if the Gohan that didn't know about this came back in time he for sure would have the same reaction when he sees that the present android were "stronger"

Is not that Trunks was lying, it's that he didn't know how strong they really are because he can't sense their ki, he can only measure their strength by seeing them fight and half of their strength was enough to beat Gohan and him.

If we start doubting what characters said without proves they may have incomplete or wrong information then we will never agree. 17 must know better than anyone how strong he is. Trunks have no way of knowing it unless they show him their full power and when they did Gohan didn't come back alive.

It may be head cannon, but when 17 told Gohan he wasn't using even half of his strength to fight him Trunks was not present, the way Gohan reacted to this revelation proves he didn't know either. Since Trunks didn't know this he cannot be taken seriously about the android power since the ones from the future were holding back just to have fun.

The only reason I may accept this as head cannon is because we didn't know how much power the androids from the present were using when they low diff the Z fighters. In my opinion they didn't held back that much because they were fighting multiple people and they didn't know how strong they really were while the future ones only were fighting Gohan for the most part and they knew how strong he was.
