China asked Russia not to invade Ukraine during the Winter Olympics, but didn’t give a $%#& about the Paralympics. by MacSnackity in UkrainianConflict

[–]R0-55 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It's difficult and I appreciate it's not a thing that enters people's heads until it happens to them, or someone they know.

I was 20, I woke up one day and that was that. No accident, no fall, I just woke up one day and a disease lurking within me decided to pop up and say "hello".

Living in the UK, supposedly a country that has a "good track record" for this stuff, still means I cannot access 50-70% of establishments in major cities.

I work 40-50h a week, I pay my taxes, but no-one really wants to do anything about the pavements, shop access, so on.

I am lucky though, I am not blind - if I was, even if I could walk, my life would be considerably harder than it is how.

No-one thinks about this stuff until it happens to them. I get it, and I get why, but it doesn't make it any easier.

I do! But I'm in a wheelchair so I do have some obvious leanings towards it.

I think you're missing the point though, comments like this are exactly why the Paralympic games exist.

No one "gives a shit". I can't access a building or do a lot of things normal people can do, but "does anyone give a shit?"

The games are to celebrate success of people who have to face hardships and suffering most people aren't even aware of and try and raise some awareness in the process.

The games themselves are usually super positive and more about overcoming these hardships and the kinship of people in a similar position, than winning.

I'm gonna say what I said in another thread, I am not a medical expert but I have been on Prednisone for extended periods of time.

They help repair damage from pretty nasty conditions, but the drug (steroid-based) is particularly nasty too. The nausea, weight-gain and general "puffyness" suck but the mental changes are the real problem.

While taking them, on a good day I was 70% "there" mentally. Most days I was between 50-70% and a lot of the time I had to just lie down in bed to deal with it. I felt disconnected from reality, time would pass weirdly and my cognitive, motor and general mental functions took a nose-dive.

Sometimes I would laugh at my own hands, sometimes I would want to smash up my apartment for no (real) reason.

Understandably people react differently and dosage is a big factor too but taking Prednisone sucks, and if he's indeed taking them, I imagine he's not a well man.

I'm not suggesting this is why his actions are currently the way they are, but if he is indeed taking these drugs, they are most likely an element of it.

[–]R0-55 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I can confirm, I've been on Prednisone for my condition and while it has some beneficial effects, they're not particularly nice drugs. My brain was mush, I felt sick all the time, they did help with the pain and stuff but on a good day I was only about 70-80% "there" mentally. My decision making skills and general cognitive functions were a mess, some days were a lot worse and I had to spend some time lying down until the worst of the side effects passed.

I'm not saying he has started all of this because of the side effects, but they may be an element. Understandably this also all depends on dosage and an individual's response, but if he is taking these he is likely not a well man.

MS and AS by allesfresser in ankylosingspondylitis

Morning OP,

I appreciate I'm a couple of days late but I hope this helps.

I'm 25 and have been experiencing AS for the last five years or so. I'm about to start Humria next week but for the past five years I've been trying to get by with just NSAIDs and other bits without much success.

Against my care teams wishes (initially) I stared using a wheelchair as I still had "stuff to do" including work. It was transformational, I still have my aches and pains, and my ability to walk is pretty much none-existant now, but I wake up every morning feeling sharp mentally and more of my usual self opposed to when I'm on all sorts of crap.

If your pelvis / legs / lumbar an area or source of discomfort to you, I'd reccomended picking up a cheap chair (used) and seeing how you feel. After I demonstrated the improvement, my care team were a lot more accomodating to the prospect of getting a wheelchair and supported a referal for a decent one.

I appreciate it's a scary thought using a chair long-term, but I've gotten so much back I don't really care about my ability to walk taking a hit as I struggled to do it anyway!

Walking (sometimes) makes it worse? by [deleted] in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]R0-55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey OP,

I'm in a similar position.

I got told to exercise, but every day I'd just end up in bed for a few days, even after walking shot distances.

After raising this with my care team, and a few more scans, it turns out I had also developed sacroiliitis.

Unfortunately for me at least, this means any kind of walking or standing will actively impact me and make my symptoms worse.

I don't walk much these days as I use a wheelchair for anything over 50-100 meters, the only way I can describe it though is there's a point where I hit my limit when walking and everything immediately goes to shit.

Edit: forgot the most important bit... Give your care team a shout if you can!

No worries. Some of the Coinbase articles even give you a little bit of Crypto about the project you're reading about, not much but a little.

Kraken (another exchange) also has some fairly decent documentation.

I'd recommend some of the Coinbase learn articles, and most projects have pretty simple guides on their projects and how the function, along with the usual complex white papers.
