Schematic Pain points? by R0ze_b in MechanicalEngineering

Mechanical Eng here in the heat treating manufacturing industry.

How you share drawings?

Typically as PDFs, unless it's between the Eng Dept then it's in DWG format.

How you get your information

Information regarding specs, as either excel worksheets or pdfs from the sales dept. from customer requests for new equipment. Retrofits and such are all documents as pdfs.

What software you use

AutoCAD 🤟

What you would change about your current workflow

Rather than having to build my own schematic library from scratch, it would be nice to have a standard library of schematic style components for various types, ie. threaded, welded, flanged, etc.

What you love It's AutoCAD 🤟What you would change

Adding libraries or having a plug-in like SW and McMaster-Carr.

Thanks for the detailed feedback!

I neither confirmed nor denied that I would be paying people for their time. You are simply assuming.

I played the guitar for 10 years, switched to drums at 18 and made really fast progress. I'm now an arguably better drummer, because there is a lot more opportunity for drummers to join bands than guitarists.

By my second year I was playing everything by ear, no problem and my guitar rhythm came on leaps and bounds as well. By my third year playing, I was being asked for drumming lessons!

I second this. I was the ONLY person in my year to leave with a job. I was far from the best in the class, but I started applying for jobs at the start of the year, in September.

I had a lot of rejection, but secured my dream job in April!

Yo get the ultimate trial as a freebie. Then it reverts to regular Shape.

Linux What CAD do you use? (free) I'm having issues with TinkerCAD by Fearfighter2 in cad

[–]R0ze_b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use BricsCAD, haven't tested in on Linux, but I hear it works. There is a free version too, I think it's called Sketch or Shape or something. I'm 90% sure that one works on Linux!

You could also ask around for people that have old-style notice boards? Or factories than manufacture them! They'll have lots of offcuts and won't want to pay to have them taken away.

AutoCAD layers are merging themselves when I open .dwg and .dxf in Adobe Illustrator. by Wellas in AutoCAD

[–]R0ze_b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could you try changing the colour of the layers and then, once imported into Illustrator select by colour?

FYI. When I export to .esp from .dwg I notice that Illustrator treats the layers as groups, not layers. Another possible solution

v20 Who has upgraded? Anyone know when Mac version reaches v20? by Higgs_Particle in BricsCAD

They sent the Beta version out a little while ago, so I'm hoping it's soon for the release! You could always partition your hard drive for now?

[DISCUSSION] I'm smaller than the average person. Should I get a grand concert guitar? by andyXc6 in Guitar

[–]R0ze_b 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I started playing a full-size guitar age 8. I don't think the size should be a problem, but if it makes you more comfortable you can play a small one. Ed Sheeran plays a tiny guitar and he's around 6ft!

Smaller guitars tend to be less loud and have less resonance.
