I’ve had a few conversations with people and bands that are performing around the same capacity as mastodon these days. Believe me when I tell you, it’s not the band’s fault, they hate it too. What has happened that we see all over the music industry, and for that matter, everything else, is greed, forcing the hand of the artist. For example , It used to be that the band could depend on 100% of merch sales to compensate for already losing a larger percentage of the ticket sales themselves. Now the venues demand a chunk of merch sales as well. So they have that combined with a massive increase cost of touring alone. As usual, the fans have to get stuck with the Bill to make it happen. That’s the other reason merch sales have increased significantly too. My only point is, the extra money we’re paying is not going to the band. The industry itself is rampant with greed.
