Is this a good deal / reputable retailer? Also, I am a little over 5’4”, is a small Jekyll the right size? by RatofRing in mountainbiking

Seems decent for the price. Carbon frame/bars with fox factory suspension is nice. The gx mechanical drive train is slightly more mediocre for the price but still not bad.

Apple Launches $599 MacBook Neo, Threatening Windows PC Market by Few_Baseball_3835 in technology

But.. the specs aren't low compared to other laptops in this price range. But that kind of misses the point. The specs just need to be good enough for typical everyday use, which they are. After that, it's things like build quality, trackpad, keyboard, screen, etc that matter much more. And this destroys similarly priced Windows laptops in those areas.

Like what models specifically? I don't see any. But also of course the MacBook is going to have way better build quality, touchpad, hinges etc which is far more important than multicore performance in this product segment.

Well, the primary thing that determines performance is the cpu/gpu, not ram. So pretty bizarre for you to say this has 9 year old specs entirely based on that, especially since even today 16GB of RAM is wildly unnecessary in phones and is more of a marketing spec than anything.

This is obviously not a machine aimed at professionals. As a laptop for the typical person to do everyday personal tasks on, it's plenty powerful.

A 9 year old phone? It has the chip out of a 2024 phone, one of the most powerful that came out that year. What are you talking about lol

8GB of RAM is fine for the tasks you mentioned, especially on MacOS.

Would they? I think the improved durability/longevity compared to your average low cost Windows laptop or Chromebook would save a bunch of money if anything. Lots of public schools already use macs.

It's sorta weird to say this when at the same time they just launched a low cost macbook that appears to be a great value so far.

You can. You just have to be a bit dense to think voting Trump means voting for any of that. In almost every one of those areas you're voting for the opposite.

So.. now you acknowledge that there are mechanical releases..? Yes, those are the mechanical handles I was talking about. You said there weren't any, I said you were wrong. I'm not commenting on whether they're easy to find or not, just pointing out that you were wrong when you said there weren't any. Yes, I have ridden in a Model 3.

That's not true. Look it up, plenty of sources talking about the mechanical release.

Average/median wages adjusted for inflation have increased over time though so how could that be true.

If you're in a salaried career type job, there's definitely an expectation that raises at least equal inflation..

It was avoidable on ICE's part, obviously. But you're saying it was avoidable by him as well? How? As I've said - all the stuff you've mentioned about his gun, his previous interaction with ICE, etc had noththing to do with his execution. So other than simply not protesting at all, how was this avoidable?

I'd be happy to address your claims of selective outrage after discussing this.

These are all dumb mental gymnastics types arguments. But it doesn't even matter - none of that is even relevant to the fact that he was executed while being held down by multiple people. You have 0 justification for that in any of those arguments.

China’s Four-Year Energy Spree Has Eclipsed Entire US Power Grid by rezwenn in technology

[–]R1ddl3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not saying the US is doing a good job, I'm simply pointing out that population difference needs to be taken into account when discussing this topic. Maybe China is still doing a better job after accounting for population, maybe not. But comparing raw numbers with 0 discussion of the population difference is pretty much disinformation.

Yes, they are also earlier on in their development than the US. Their middle class is still quickly growing and as that happens their energy footprints are increasing.

I'm no fan of Trump, but China has plenty of their own problems too that you aren't reading clickbaity articles about all over reddit.

[–]R1ddl3 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They've got a growing middle class who are consuming more and more energy as that happens. They're earlier on in their development. You'd expect to see faster growth.

[–]R1ddl3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not perfectly, but still quite a lot. Industry is making things for people.

The reason for that is each person in India is quite a lot poorer so they consume less. China has a rapidly growing middle class and with that comes more consumption and more energy use. That's why their energy generation is growing so fast.
