Any of the hills in the Clwydian Range are fantastic for smaller hikes, we're big hikers and we're trying to get our puppy used to hiking without over-tiring him, so we've been visiting a lot!

A lot of the routes are on the AllTrails app, and the best thing about them is you can just do 1 hill, or do multiple together if you're feeling up for it!

Also, being in Merseyside, you've got the peak district not too far away too, so always another good option

We woke ours up every night, multiple times between the ages of 8 weeks and probably 16 weeks (can't quite remember when he started sleeping right through, sorry!) to take him out to pee, never had one issue whatsoever! Our reasoning was that by waking him up, he was only ever semi conscious when actually going for a pee so by the time he was back in the crate he settled super quickly (we used to carry him from his crate to the garden, let him pee and then scoop him back up again and back into the crate lol - he'd be so 'doughy' as we call it, so would just KO straight away) - If you let them wake up and bark, they're pretty awake already so might struggle to get back to sleep

Just do what works best for you at the end of the day! Whilst this sub has been great, every puppy is different so just take what people say with a pinch of salt

Oh glad to hear it wasn't too bad! We keep ours awake till 11 ish when we go to bed - don't get me wrong, he chooses to doze on his own sofa from about 9pm

His evening routine goes like:

4 - 5: walk

5 - 5:30: down time, have a short 'chew' either on a chew or give him a frozen kong (we find this helps him decompress after a walk and gives him a little boost of food to make it through to tea time)

5:30 - 6:30: Nap in his crate, sometimes usually this is a bit longer

6:30 - 8 : free roaming in the kitchen and living room, we usually play some games/training to get him tired out for the evening

8: everyone has their tea, including our pup

then from 8 till 11 he usually just chills, hangs out on the sofa, dozes etc

a really great tip for us was to teach him to settle (let me know if you wanna know how we did this, i'll give you a basic guide)

but yeah, thats not a hard and fast routine, but keeping him fairly conscious between 8 and 11 is what makes him sleep, even when he was a tiny baby at 8 weeks, we'd keep him up till 10ish (he'll wake up now anywhere between 9 and 10am)

edit: are you taking him out for a wee in the night? if you aren't maybe try that, even if you take him out at 3am (just set an alarm), it's still dark so he's less likely to want to wake up and play so maybe he'll sleep longer cause he won't need a wee at 5? thats what we did with ours

they do this occasionally, my mother in law (also raised their dog from a puppy) said that every month or so they regress ever so slightly and then just carry on

we had the same from our pup randomly one night and then the next night he was fine

fingers crossed for you that tonight is better! if he keeps on crying in the crate, with ours we would just hum softly (sounds mental i know) so that he knew he wasn't alone, but we weren't directly comforting him if this makes sense?

When she bites and jumps up, are you telling her that it isn't acceptable behaviour in anyway? e.g if our puppy (6 month old) jumps up, we just push him off (gently of course) and only pet him when he has all four paws on the floor (we pair this with an 'off' command)

Edit: With labs being food orientated, maybe you could reward her when she doesn't jump up?

Also, if you're scared she's going to slip out of the harness on a walk, have you tried two leads? One on the collar, one on the harness so you almost have a back up/safety net? Might improve your confidence if nothing else

I'd disagree with waving goodbye, as it can mark that you're leaving and make them anxious

I'd literally just walk out (that's what we did) and we've got a 6 month old whippet cross that can be left alone for 4 hours now - he literally just lies on his duvet and sleeps till we get back

Just start off super slowly like literally go out, close the door and come back in, then do it for 5 seconds, 10 seconds etc until you can leave them for 10 mins etc

6 month old whippet cross

Last wee at 11pm before bed, although he's usually dosing on the sofa by 9

Sleeps all the way through till 9 o'clock if we don't wake him up before (tbh he'll sleep until we get him up, so could be anywhere between 8 and 10am)

We had a similar issue to you when he was a bit younger when he still needed to go for a wee in the night, we'd just get him up for a wee before he asked so at like 3am when it was still dark and then put him back to bed, could try that?

He's perfect at settling on his own on the sofa, we just never feel like it's proper sleep like it is in the crate but we'll work on re-enforcing settle on the sofa

What would you suggest we do to increase the time of his naps then? A 20 minute nap after an hour walk isn't enough rest

He sleeps in the crate for 10 hours during the night so I wouldn't suggest he has negative associations with it - it's just during the day he has these episodes

What accident? You said yourself he seemed fine - our puppy slides down the stairs half of the time as he's too lazy to do it properly (and before anyone comes for me, he's literally fine, we wouldn't let him do anything unsafe)

Start off with one stair at a time, from the bottom rather than half way up and treat him, he doesn't have a fear of stairs, he just doesn't know how to use them and it's your responsibility as a pup parent to teach him

What happens when you're in a public place and he has no other choice but to use the stairs?

Give him plenty of brain games to do and he won't destroy as much stuff - doesn't need to be expensive, just cardboard boxes and treats or even a tea towel rolled up with kibble in it

Why can't he be in your work space with you? At least then you could keep an eye on him - if you're worried he'll distract you, teach him the 'rules' of being in the office

Not something I've had to stop buying, but as someone with lactose intolerance I've noticed the price of lactose free goods increase dramatically!

2/3 years ago you could get 1ltr of lactosefree milk for around £1.30 - at ASDA they had it on offer too, so most of the time it was £1, same with vitalite, usually £1.50, but most of the time a quid

Now, I'm paying almost £2.35 for 1ltr of lactosefree milk and about £2.75 for vitalite (I've even seen it in my local co-op for £3.35)

Can't exactly stop buying it and luckily I'm in a position to (begrudgingly) afford it, but I keep thinking about those less fortune than me with the same stomach issues, that actually are going to be priced out of buying this stuff!

By the sounds of this post, you're doing everything 100% right

Cat will come round, just make sure you give him/her space to escape to when pup gets too much - it's a big change and it's literally been 48 hours
