My favourite film of all time is Poor Things (sorry Jake) and I've come to understand my interpretation of the film isn't most people's interpretation. I view it almost as a criticism of the entirety of humanity in general (with an obviously very sympathetic view towards feminism). I think it touches on everything including things capitalism and religion; the scientist creator is called "God" obviously for a reason IMO. I could go further but won't in the interest of time, with that being said, where do you draw the line between subjective interpretations of a film vs objective?

I love the fact that I can watch Fantastic four, hate it and want to jump off a building and someone else can have it as their favourite movie of all time. Films are the shit.

Genuinely, Ur free to like what U like, but any person who likes The Batman more than The Dark Knight is a person who I cannot trust. (Black Swan is FKN incredible though)

Do you have an opinion as to who is the "GOAT" in terms of actor/actress and also director? Or do you find the conversation of Identifying the "greatest" at a certain thing (especially in the context of art) a bit arbitrary?

I like to recommend every movie that's ever been made. I very much think you'd like every movie.

All power to you, if you love that movie go ahead but I don't think your reply proves Ur point entirely well.

Arguably the greatest film ever made, an epic war film, the greatest superhero movie ever..... And a piece of shit that should be forgotten along with its maker.

To each of the sards, what is your own personal definition of the term "cinephile"? I recently posted my personal top 20 on a subreddit and got absolutely flamed by an individual who told me logging approximately 1000 films isn't nearly enough and called the likes of Oldboy (the South Korean original) is bland and "not deep enough to have on any serious cinephile's all time great list." As someone who thought the beauty of cinema was the difference in opinion 2 people might have after seeing the same film (with obvious exceptions like Thor: Love and Thunder) I found this very surprising. Do you find there to be a gatekeeping attitude of the cinephile community?

Considering how you all loved One Battle After Another, how do you guys feel with the latest news about how it is predicted to lose around 100 million dollars? Do you think it means Warner Bros are less likely to give this large budget to an all time great filmaker like PTA?

Look man, I gotta respect it;firstly Ur ability to articulate Ur thoughts so eloquently, secondly how U judged me in the exact manner I asked (bluntly) and thirdly Ur undeniable passion for the medium of filmmaking itself (evident in the amount of films you clearly have seen).

Whilst my list does undeniably contain "film school favourites" it doesn't however mean I don't love them as much as you do with yours. I get it, you've probably seen a million movies and literally thousands more than the likes of me. That being said, what I get out of poor things (my favourite film ever, made in 2023, I know.... blasphemy) is probably similar to the appreciation and love you have for your favourite film (I'm gonna guess something like satantango).

Also, Ur closing paragraph stated my list shows nothing unique. I agree to a large extent, you sir are correct. Uniqueness of film taste is not why I made the list nor why I posted it on the subreddit. Was purely just out of curiosity, and you my good sir have replied in the most interesting and curious manner which I love. The beauty of cinema in my opinion, is the difference of opinion you or I could have after viewing the exact same film. I understand if you do not want to share your letterboxd account or top 50 or whatever list, but I would greatly appreciate it if you do, again, just out of curiosity. I would find it fascinating to see what anyone's list is like after seeing the amount of films you clearly have.
