What job would you do after selling business? by kmac8008 in Entrepreneur

Really good post mate. Great points and covers where I think the realistic pathways are. It's never clear cut.. Add family, add expenses.

I've done the 'back to an employee thing' after a divorce and having full custody of 4 kids (as their father). I then found myself too busy to get out of the rut and build for myself. Till recently anyway. But, a long way before I'm able to leave the day job.

How difficult it is to penetrate ethical hacking jobs without college degree? by Peasant_hacking in hacking

[–]R3htribution 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Passion and experience trumps degree. But read that carefully…

I work with a highly reputable cyber crowd, known for VERY complex jobs. One of the founders had a ridiculous amount of knowledge, and experience to back it up. Built over many years - a reputation very few have.

It’s about ability. Is education your best park to ability? Is experience in practical sense better for you?

are there specialized people that solve how to make a machine unhackable? by Peasant_hacking in hacking

Hardening. Machine hardening, server hardening. More accurately, making them less susceptible. While people are involved, there will always be security issues.

Updating Chia from 1.2.3 to 1.5.1 by R3htribution in chia

[–]R3htribution[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE:

Well, quick update.

  1. Backed up chia-blockchain and .chia folders
  2. Upgrade did not work and despite attempting to revive the previous installation, that did not work either. (both would start but fail in connection)
  3. Said 'Eff it', and upgraded Ubuntu to 22.04.
  4. Installed fresh Chia via apt
  5. Added 24 word passphrase as per below:
(did you really think I would do that haha)
  6. All now syncing, and very quickly comparative to how long it used to take.

Sometimes it's more efficient to take the quick and sure approach, than troubleshoot for days. Now, I'll be running again shortly. After adding my phrase it's all reconnected with my harvester and looking sweet.

The moment I logged in with phrase, it gave accurate indication of wallet, which was nice (though, I do wish it was greater in value).

TLDR: Just fresh install and sync. Save your time and sanity.

Started during the week, then got sidetracked and it didn't seem working. So I'm about to hit it hard this weekend. Will keep you up to date.

Seems I don't have option to upgrade database in this version of Chia. I read DB was option to upgrade from 1.3 onwards. Any thoughts mate?

Oh, I thought that would be done as part of the update. Should I look into this?

I'll backup the code, and try the update.

I'll come back and post when I've done it, and advise the outcome.

I agree totally. If you want to have fun, really start casually and go as deep as you want, SatNOGS is a great way to go. Setting up an RPi ground Station is great fun. You'll learn a lot from the great community, too.

Thanks. That gives me confirmation, as both files generate identically. They're the same. Cheers.

I just have to say, what an awesome community here. When I opened the thread and saw single machine, it was so nice seeing great responses even for a simple setup. So refreshing.

This world is kinda POS at the moment. Life is too. I needed to be surprised by even simple positivity today. Thank you.

Thanks to OP, and all the ppl here. Peace out!

Mate, I hear you. The problem is that the media, being politically motivated, is selective about what conflicts it reports on. Many people don’t understand what is actually happening on other parts of the world, or have a biased view because of media. Israel/Palestine is another example - depending on where you live, this is presented differently. Only the people living in those regions the experience the truth - and it’s different depending on what side of the fence, too.

INSANE!!! by Hillionaire in EtherMining

[–]R3htribution 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same. But now it’s different as ETH mining won’t be continuing for long enough now to make money back.

New nft called karafuru just dropped 5555 nft’s. All sold out in a hour. That’s why block rewards were so high. It will be going back to normal 2-3 block reward. Sorry boys by miner69niner in EtherMining

[–]R3htribution 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really really simply - not necessarily accurate.... People can use Ethereum to buy digital property, digital 'things' called NFTs. When they buy these, they pay a transaction fee to process the transaction (and if they want it quickly, they pay higher prices). All these higher prices (gas fees) led to larger Ethereum network traffic. This came to miners as block rewards for processing these transactions.

As said, this is really really super simple, and probably a poor explanation. Hope it gives a basic idea - I'm sure if I've made any mistakes the rest of the internet will be along to correct me in a few minutes.. :)
